You may have already seen my post in the pre-do forum but i figured i would try it out here too!!! as mentioned earlier I am getting to the discouraging point of the application process as my mailbox remains empty day after day...and I am trying to put together a plan for next year if rejected. I am quite interested in the post-bac program at LECOM, and i would love to hear from anyone regarding this program. The program is much cheaper than other programs, and I was wondering just how the students do upon completion! If anyone has any opinions, observations etc. i would really appreciate them! Thanks guys

I wasn't a post bacc at LECOM, but several people in my MSI class were post bacc's last year. My impression is that those who successfully complete the post bacc program at LECOM do well in the following year's application process. I hope that there are some former post bacc's out there that can confirm this for me.

Good luck with everything. Keep the faith!

Check my post on the pre-DO board.

If the Post Ba. program at LECOM prepares you anything like the M.S. in Biomed at PCOM, you will be making a good choice in applying to that program.

Being that I am partial to PCOM....look into our program in Biomedical Sciences. It will prepare you well for Med School and improve your chances of getting accepted at PCOM.

I have a good friend in the Biomed program here and I think that she is going to be better prepared having taken the classes here at PCOM.

Hope this helps.

I am currently in the Post- Bac program at LECOM. I would recommend this program to anyone who has applied and failed to get accepted the first time around. The program is taught by the same instructors who teach at the medical school and often they require us to do the same material that the first years do. As a result you are very much at an advantage when you get in to the school. As far as getting in ....well they will say that there is no promises, however, it seems to me that if you do well you are guarntenteed in. For me this program was wonderfull.

mj48503 I pm'ed you.

The post-bacc worked for everyone in my class (2001-2002) that had there stuff together in time to apply. Several of us got into LECOM and some of us went to other schools, PCOM, CCOM, OUCOM...
The LECOM web site has a good explanation of the program and a video of someone from my class that gives a testimonial.

It is no secret that Lecom fills its remaining spots with post bac students. Even if your mcat was horrible, they would rather take a chance on you than a total stranger.

HoosierDO:

I participated in the first semester of the LECOM postbac program until I was accepted at NOVA. I can tell you from personal experience that the program is very good and goes a long way at preparing you for your first year of medical school. It is not a "cake-walk" though. We had several of the 45+ participants were not allowed to return for the second semester because of poor performance.

In addition to the academics... should you be interested in attending LECOM, you will already know many of the faculty and they may know you better. If you get an interview at another school, they do take your willingness to go the extra yard to be prepared as well as your academic performance into consideration. That's what helped me (I think).

Anyway. Stay positive and follow-up with those schools you haven't heard from.... it's a good thing to stay involved.

Best of luck with your continuing process.... let us know how it goes.
