How long should a Letter of Recommendation be for your residency application? I asked a Dr. to write me one and he happily agreed, and then asked me about how long it should be. I told around 2/3 to 1 page, but there was no clear cut guideline.

I did a quick search on this forum, and other ones, and couldn't find much info. Does anybody know about how long one should be? Is it really bad if it's short, but says great things?

If a student asked me to write anything more than 1 page, I'd give them my newly developed rectal exam (currently in phase II clinical trials), the one where I use my foot instead of my finger.

I always assumed LORs are usually no more than 1 page just like for college/med school LORs

I'd be more concerned that he had to ask you that. Most docs have written a lot of letters and know what theyre doing. Its a little concerning that he doesnt know.

I'd be more concerned if he hadn't offered to write me the letter without me even asking. However, I don't think he's written too many, which may be a bad thing.
