Ok,
so I shadowed this amazing D.O. physician in the ER of the hospital where I used to work. He wrote me a letter of recommendation and sent it to the Osteopathic Schools I am applying to. However, he also sent a copy to my advisor...I have the committee writing my letter and she thinks it would be appropriate to include this letter in the packets for allopathic programs, even though the doctor is a DO. I mean, he is a doctor and his perception of whether I'll make a good doctor or not, should be the same, regardless the type of degree I'm pursuing. But..I don't know if it would be a bit fishy...

What do you guys think?
thanks!

I don't see anything wrong with that... it can help you.

A doctor is a doctor... does he say in his / her letter that he suggest you go into DO program or just medicine.

I sent my DO letter to both MD and DO schools. It was a strong letter and that's all that mattered.

And honestly, if it does matter to a MD school that a DO wrote your letter, do you really want to go to that school?

If it's a good letter, send it.

I know they are doctors, too. I almost slapped my boyfriend's sister when she said NSU didn't have a medical school, and when I told her they did, and it was an Osteopathic School...she told me that wasn't the same as being a doctor and that you couldn't do the same things...I never felt the need to hurt someone so bad :p...But I controlled myself...I started to try to explain things to her, but then realized it was pointless, she had already made up her mind about D.O.'s :(

It was just a question about, I dunno...looking fishy...or that I'm applying to both to cover all my bases or something. Don't worry, I can't read the letter, but my advisor told me I should send it in because it was good. So I am going to...

Thanks again!

Is this what I should prepare for? Was she just the first one? Are there many more to come?

I'm at an allopathic institution completing my graduate degree. One member of the graduate advisory committee told me to attend "real medical school" after I told him I'm going to osteopathic school.
