I'm on a couple waitlists at California schools, has anyone been successful writing a letter of intent?

What do you write on the letter? I want to send one, but I'm sure it'll be futile if I'm ranked pretty low on thier waitlist; what do you guys think?

Schools speak to each other and if they find out that you have sent out more than one then you might just get flat out rejected from all of them.

If I were to write one it might sound something like this...

Dr. X,

I am currenty on your waitlist. I would like to be a member of your entering class. I am currently accepted at X medical school, and would gladly turn it down to accept your school.

Here is why i am sure that your school is the ideal place for me to attend medical school. I specifically liked X, X , X. I feel that X would allow me to become the best physician possible. In addition I was greatly impressed with the dedication of the factuly. The students seemed happy etc.

I feel that I would be an invaluable addition to your school because of X, X, and X. Since my interview I have done X, X and X.

I am convinced that your school is where I belong, and I hope that after reading this you feel the same way...

Thank you for your consideration
Respectfully,
XXX

Hey PelicanMan,

You've probably heard this but

A wonderful bird is the pelican;
His mouth can hold more than his belly can;
He can keep in his beak;
enough food for a week;
And I'll be damned if I know how the hell he can.

...cuuutttt....paaassttteee....... aye, mission accomplished. Thanks for the words, UCLA. Kidding, I agree with your format though. It seems that most concise and least bull$hitty letters will be most effective in the long run.

mmp.

That is hilarious <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" />

I have not heard it and I was wondering if I could use it as my signature temperarly?

Thanks

You're welcome to use it. I have no idea who the original author is. It is a traditional limerick....

I wrote a LOI that is about the same as UCLA 2000, but with a ton more detail. Ended up being 2 pages. As for weather they work, I donno. I know that they do get read though. I wrote another letter talking about my marathon experience and apparently the people in the admissions office passed it around and everyboy read it. The receptionist knew who I was when I called to check if it arrived.

what marathon experience?? i'm always baffled at how people can write things that other people just completely fall in love with. a friend of mine had a similar thing happen with an autobiographical sketch he sent to the premed office at my school. what's the secret jalbrekt?
