When should you put in a letter of intent/interest? I've heard before interview, post-interview, post-rejections, post-waitlist. Which is it?

What is the difference?

And also, what goes into a letter of intent? Dr so-so, I would like to come to your school. Let me in?

Thanks

either post-interview or post-waitlist (most people say post-waitlist, i like to do post interview)

I'm joking...

Someone enlighten me also on the purpose of a letter of intent. Is this some sort of persuasion to coerce the school into giving you an acceptance?

If this is the case, I think its kinda funny to submit a letter of intent to a school that has rejected you, because technically, that is the same thing as submitting your primary.

from what i understand, a letter of intent says something to the effect of "hey school i love, you're my first choice and if you accept me i'll totally come...i like totally swear and junk."

a letter of interest seems pretty specifically for use in a waitlist case, and should just be something along the lines of "thanks for considering my application...i learned a lot about your school during my visit and am still very interested in attending if i am offered an acceptance."

the letter of intent is much stronger, and definitely should only be sent to the one school where you would actually follow through...because it would definitely be in bad form to tell multiple schools you would definitely attend if accepted on the off chance you get accepted to multiple schools. i'm not sure if letters of intent can be considered binding, but at the very least it would be shady etiquette to send out more than one.

with either one, you would at least want to wait until you've interviewed, otherwise it would probably be questioned how you can be so sure you're interested in a school without even seeing it or talking to anyone at an interview.

I sent in a letter to a school after I was rejected. They were my top choice school and I felt like they just looked at my UG GPA and rejected me. I asked that they look closer at my file and expressed all the reasons I wanted to go to their school.

did u ever get a response back? curious to know if anything came of it and what school it was
