Letter of Intent

Has anyone ever written a letter of intent to a residency program as part of their application? Hackensack University Medical Center (GPR) says this on their website. "Applicants interested in our General Practice Residency (GPR) program must attend a dental school that is accredited by the American Dental Association (ADA). We participate in the Postdoctoral Application Support Services (PASS), aside from submission of grades and NBDE part 1 scores applicants are required to submit a letter of intent along with a 2×2 photo"

Not sure if they want a letter of intent or if they just worded personal statement or CV differently.

In my experience and opinion, it’s essentially a personal statement. When it’s worded as letter of intent, I make sure to highlight why that program/speciality specifically
