hi,

i've been doing research with a professor at the med school for some time now. and i was wondering how med schools look at lor's from med school professors? i mean if i get a good recommendation from them do i have a good chance to get into that particular school,. anyone had an LOR from a med school prof. and what has your experience been? did you get accepted?

I don't think its a golden ticket to an acceptance but I do think it helps. It may also depend on who that particular professor knows, since he is as likely to have enemies as friends on the admissions committee.

I don't think it will hurt your chances.

It really depends on what your professor writes. If they just evaluate your lab work, depending on the intensity of your experience, it will be a push. If you have your own project and are good in the lab it surely helps. If you actually know the professor and he writes the 'ideal letter' on your behalf it will look extremely good, because he'll emphasize he sees med students every day and you are on that level.

My PI is a full professor of neurology at Harvard (MD/PhD) and so far it's done squat :) Apparently *he* got rejected from Harvard when he was applying, which I find kind of amusing.

i had a letter from a professor at my #1 school. during discussions with him about writing the letter he said "i expect you to get put on the waitlist, then get accepted off the the waitlist". i was excited about the "then get accepted" part, but i'm afraid of what he said in the letter....
:scared:
one of the student interviewers noted my lor: "you got a letter from dr. x???!!!??" kind of excited. i wish i would have asked "was it good?"
