I'm wondering if I switch out to a certain specialty, what is the deal with the letters?

Do people recycle or re-use? Or do you need 3 fresh ones, hopefully one in the 1 field you want to head into?

Sorry in advance if I'm repeating. I couldn't find a thread specifically for this in detail.

When I switched from medicine to psychiatry, I got new letters. One of them was from my internal medicine residency PD. While I don't know if there's any set rules, re-using your med school letters doesn't seem like a good idea to me. You are going to want your letters to speak to how you are doing as a resident and how they think you'll do in the new specialty. I didn't have a letter from a psychiatrist, but if you can get one from someone in the new specialty, it couldn't hurt.

Any particular threads out there?

I'm thinking collecting letters from internship. How does that sound?
