How the heck am I supposed to get a recommendation from Dean of college granting my undergrad degree when I don't have a support from pre-med committee. I've been out of college for 5 years though I got my master's degree just last year. Besides the Dean rarely knows me, if not he probably remembers me as a D student at the best because I got D on his course back in college.

PCOM does not accept individual faculty letters in replace of letter from premed committe or dean. I asked them via email a while ago and they haven't replied me back.
Also I don't even know how I should get a recommendation from liberal arts professor.

That's the whole reason I'm not applying to PCOM.

How on earth am I supposed to get the Dean to write me a letter? He doesn't even meet with students unless it's an urgent situation. My school doesn't have a committee, so I've been scrambling to get letters from various professors.

I wish PCOM would change their policy, but maybe they'd make an exception for you? Try calling them instead of email..

I always thought it was an either or type of packet. It was optional.

Either you had individual letters OR you could just have the committee letter from your undergrad. When I filled out the applications, I think they made that as an exceptions since they knew there would be non-trads who had been out of undergrad for a few years.

The only other option is if you took a post-bac or a master's and they might be able to get you some sort of "committee letter".

Last cycle, I called PCOM and spoke with an admissions counselor and she told me I could substitue the Dean's letter with an academic advisor letter. I would definitely call to see if you could make this substitution.

When I applied to PCOM two years ago, I could not get a committee letter because I had transferred schools and had not taken enough science courses at the new school to qualify for one from them.

The secondary app from PCOM stated that in lieu of a committee letter, a letter from my premed advisor would suffice. However, when I called the admissions office to confirm this, the woman I talked to was rather rude about the whole thing.

She snorted when I asked about sending a letter from my advisor, and when I stated that the letter I got from them said that it was okay, she basically said "Nope - we won't accept that - has to be from the committee or the dean of your school."

So, I had to chase down some Dean I'd never met, and hound her for a letter.

I didn't hear a peep from PCOM after my stuff got sent in. Actually, I think to date, I have yet to recieve a rejection letter from them.

Now, don't get me wrong - I think PCOM is a great school. But my experience with their admissions office left a bad impression with me, so much so that when I applied the second time around, PCOM was not on the list of places to apply.

Makes me wonder whether some of the stringent requirements PCOM has for comittee letters is geared towards making it harder for non-trads to apply ...
