I'm in a pickel. I graduated from college in 1999, did most of my recs there, but finished orgo at CUNY. I asked a prof from my alma matter to write a letter of recommendation and he shut me down(he was really nice about it though). Now that Prof was my best bet, did 3 courses with him, all during the last year and a half of my college career. I know I did this ass backward, I take full responsibity. I just wanted to know what people's experiences with asking old prof's for recs has been like, especially for those non-traditional folks like myself. I really don't want to do a pos-bac, but it's been 7 years since I was I graduated and from this guy's response, no one is gonna remember me from a hole in the wall.. What should I do? I am wide open to suggestions, similar horror stories, words of wisdom, etc. Thanks

I would say ask your other professors. They might not remember you so well but they may be willing to meet with you and write you SOMETHING.

You might also want to call up some of the dental schools you are applying to and seeing if they will still consider your classes since it has been a while since you took those pre-requisites. 🙂

id ask other old professors. i go to a huge school where most of my profs dont know who i am. id suggest asking these other profs while sending them your personal statement, resume, and anything about the course (your overall grade, ANYTHING else if you have it (old essays, lab reports, etc. possibly saved on your computer). even though they dont remember you, they would feel more confident writing a letter of rec if they know about you through your resume and pers. statement. id also take a couple science courses so you can show the admissions committees that you are still capable of doing well and maybe you can get a letter of rec out of it as well.
