Sounds like you are considering writing a letter and saying its from someone else, or the person you asked to write you one told you to write it for them. Neither of which should you do or even consider.

I have heard of people that have had to write their own letters of recommendation. But do you really want a letter from someone (even if all you get is their signature) that doesn't care enough about you to spend 30 minutes extolling your virtues (or lack thereof?)

Even if you do have to write your own letter, you could avoid all of this by telling the truth in the first place... What are you worried about needing to be verified?

I mean do they call the recommender and ask them if they wrote the letter? Many recommenders esp. pharmacist do not wish to write the letter at all. (prob not well at writing) They all told me to write it and they will gladly sign it. Thats how majority of rphs I know are.

Then I'll repeat myself - do you really want a letter from someone (even if all you get is their signature) that doesn't care enough about you to spend 30 minutes extolling your virtues (or lack thereof?)

I have NEVER had a problem getting someone to write a LOR for me, but I pick the people I ask very carefully. If I know that I might need someone to write me a LOR, I feel them out and make sure that I develop a good relationship with them before I ask. If the pharmacist's problem is that they aren't a good writer, you could always ask to look the letter over. Just make sure that you check the box on the form that says you DON'T waive your right to viewing the letter.

Being a pharmacist puts you in a position where people will trust you - why not start out with high integrity, especially during the admissions process?

/climbs off horse. Good horsie!

I would be surprised if they called just to ask them if they wrote the letter or just signed it. Your still mising the point of the letter. Its for someone else to give their take on you and your future as a pharmacist. Besideds the fact that if you write your letters, you run the risk of someone noticing the similarity in writing style between letters and/or your essay.

You are right. But I will have to check not waived box, I guess.

That is the sort of thing that you don't want to do. That indicates to the school that the letter probably is less objective and less honest. You really should find someone who will actually write one for you. You'll be much better off and won't have anything to worry about.

oh come on...
this stuff happens all the time...

there are other threads regarding it i do believe...

don't mark the not waived box...

a lot of people will take what you have written and use it as a guideline.

if you can find someone who wants to take the time to do this for you then by all means.... if you cant... then write them the "guideline" and be done with it.

a lot of LORs are just checkboxes anyway and not actually letters.
