Curious...

I am planning on applying for pharmacy school for 2007. I have recently asked for some letters of rec from my professor, but I have no idea what to do with it because the application process for 2007 hasn't started yet. I know that some schools would like the professors to send it directly to the them, but the application process for 2007 is not until June. Does anyone have any advice as to what I should do in the mean time? I want my professor to write it now so that she doesn't forget me, but what should I have her do? Send it to me sealed so then I can send it to the schools when I apply?

I would ask the professor if she would recommend you and give her the option to write the recommendation now or in June when 'X' open's their admission's process. It's customary, unless you've spent a lot of time with the professor, to send additional information to them when requesting the recommendation. Included in this request is what you've done since you've last been in their class and what your goals are for the future.

Ultimately it's been my experience that if you work hard and soak up the material, that teachers tend to remember you.

Talk to her now and get her to agree to the letter. Then in June, sit down with her and have a conference in which you discuss your goals, experience and strengths, so that she knows what you might expect in the letter, and so that she does not have to design the content entirely on her own. Provide her with a copy of your resume/CV and your asmissions essay.

Here's an old trick I picked up in the Navy. The idea is to write YOUR OWN letter of evaluation and THEN give it to your prof., ready-to-go. Even if he/she decides to make changes to your letter, you will already have put forth your merits in the pre-fabricated letter.

The most obvious benefit is that it makes it easy for the prof to agree to write the letter for you in the first place and then on top of that you make it ridiculously easy for him to actually get it done on time and pretty much in the guise you desired in the first place.

If you write the letter well and include factual information and references, you will further facilitate the professor's completion of the letter.

make periodical visits to your professors between now and june. like drop by twice a month or even once a month to catch up with them like during their office hours that way you know they probably will be free. this way, they don't forget you and will probably appreciate the fact that you've kept contact.
