Some few random questions regarding letters of recommendation:

1.) how many letters do we need for ERAS (Is 4 the max?)
2.) Aside from 2 EM letters, what other rotations should we have (IM, surg, both?)
3.) Is there a template for the letter writer to follow
4.) Where should the author send the letters once finished.

Thats it...thanks!

It depends on the program. Most require only 3 letters of rec, and at least 1 must be from an Emergency Physician. The letter that the EP writes is called the SLOR, short for Standardized Letter of Rec. It is basically a checklist that depicts how well you did on the clerkship, with a little area for narrative comments. I believe you can find a copy of the SLOR on the SAEM website. I don't think it really matters what specialty your other letters come from, as long that your letter writer can write a strong letter for you. My other 2 letters were from Peds and Cardiology faculty. I would advise asking them if they would be able to write a strong letter for you. You might get turned down, but that is way better than getting a lukewarm letter.

Oh and to answer question 4. Usually your Dean's office will give you a coversheet that will have instructions on where to send it. If not, have it sent to your Dean's office.
