Just checked out PASS and noticed that some GPRs require up to a whopping 5 letters of recommendation, many from very specific types of dental school faculty (restorative, didactic, one dept chair, perio or oral surgery, endo)...

I was prepared with a solid list of 5-6 d-school faculty to confront about letters, but now it looks like even they don't fit the bill for many of these programs because none are dept. chairs or prosthodontists per se, for example, even if they are tenured professors with solid credentials that actually know my work (unlike the lofty dept chair) :(

Anyone got any advice? does following the rules really matter if the letters of rec are good?

Sorry for the late reply/potential hijack of this thread. But for those programs that do ask for more than 2 rec letters, how are we to actually accomplish that on the PASS application? In the PASS application, for all my program designations, there are only 2 slots for my reference letters to be selected. I've got 5 letters written for me, and I am pretty determined to get those hard earned letters to my residency programs. Any help guys?

Same thing I am wondering. Some programs ask for 3 recs, but I can only send 2 through PASS. I think you have to get a hard letter sent from whomever wrote the letter for you.

i would contact the program. for instance, san antonio ortho said that 2 letters are suffice plus the dean's letter and a PPI would count as the "third letter" so i would contact them. also i'm sure it wouldn't hurt to snail-mail them in.
