3 ophtho?
2 ophtho, 1 medicine
1 ophtho, 1 medicine, 1 surgery?

my school has a strong ophtho dept and the three ophtho letters would be from my PI (graduate research in ophtho lab), course master (prof emeritus), and another well known ophthalmologist.

2 ophtho would be from PI, course master and a 3rd yr medicine attdg.

the last combo I am asking for a friend who doesn't know many of the ophthalmologists here.

I'd go with 2 opth and 1 medicine letter

i'd go ahead and secure all 3 ophtho letters, but would probably do 2 ophtho, 1 medicine. then i'd contact programs to see if i could send them the 3rd ophtho letter if the person is a big wig and the letter is strong. it's very important to secure these letters EARLY (like ask NOW and give them 4-6 weeks to write it). it's a delicate situation when your attending hasn't written it yet and you don't want to keep hassling them...
