Hi,

I was just wondering about the possibility of applying for licensure after doing GME (both internship and residency) in another country other than the US and Canada? Has anyone been in this situation before? Is it even possible? How does it work?

Thanks!

Licensure or board certification? You need both. And the short answer is no.

There are a lot of much longer, more complicated answers that result in "maybe...kinda...possibly yes", but they are all very situational and specific and unless you're willing to provide a copy of your CV (with your name redacted of course) for us to review, then the answers you're going to get will round down to "no".

No, doing training elsewhere will not be accepted as GME credit in the U.S. The exception GutOnc mentions is for some internally renowned physician, universally accepted as an expert in a rare niche/disease. Obviously a short track should exist for them so they don't have to do the whole USMLE/Residency process to get licensed and ultimately board certified.

It's not something you get if you (for example) did training in the UK, think you have had equivalent or even superior experience than your US counterparts in a specialty, and want to get short-tracked. You're going to have to do the USMLEs/Licensure.
