This post is related to JPP's posting "Bow Your Head". Great post BTW.

Those of you that are currently in fellowships or have completed one...

Remember how MUCH your life sucked during your anesthesia residency???

Is it more of the same as a fellow, or did it get better?

I'd think that more intensive fellowships i.e. critical care and cardiac anesthesia, might be alot harder lifestyle/B.S. wise compared to residency.

Any takers?

About the same.

having just come from the interview trail for CCM fellowships, I can say that many of them are Q3 call for 3/4's of the year... which is worse than most of my residency. The BS ratio between residency and fellowship remains to be seen. I'll let you know in a year.

Any surprises or news from the CCM train? I see CCM in my future.

Surprises? I wouldn't say that. I learned about a couple sort of big time potential people swapping departments in the near future, but some of that is probably just academic gossip and saber-rattling. I interviewed at a bunch of places I really liked, and it seems like there are some good programs out there. I get the sense that it's still somewhat wide open, but the applicant pool is growing. I'd be happy to PM you and answer any questions you had about specific programs. I interviewed at Pitt, Hopkins, Columbia, and UCSF (I was fairly focused and knew a few places I wanted to end up, but there are certainly other great programs out there).
