Stick with term life. Buy it when you are young/younger.

Keep it simple. Don't get caught up with all these variable life/annunity sales pitches.

What do you mean does any of the policy cover ur spouse?

You can make beneficiary anyone you want. Spouse/kids/mother/sister.

You can buy life insurance out on ur spouse as well.

Get the cheapest term policy from a reputable company. Term life insurance is a commodity. There's nothing special about it.

Consider getting two policies of different durations, because your need for life insurance will probably decrease as you get older. For example, a 30 year policy for $X and a 20 year policy for $Y.

If there's one thing television informative murder porn has taught me, it's that the cops always catch the guy who buys life insurance for his wife, if she has an unfortunate accident a week later. So, be sure wait a little longer before you off her.

I'd like to add....I'd make having good disability insurance a priority over life insurance.
That's an odd thing to say. They're totally different things with totally different purposes.

People with families need both. Single people don't necessarily need life insurance.

When you look at a life insurance policy I always think that one should buy the amount of coverage they need then the duration of the term period you can afford 2nd. When looking at companies I think you should also know the size, rating, any accelerated benefits, and of course that the premium is truly fixed for the entire period of the term. Beware there are some carriers / products that might say 10, 15, 20 or 30 year term but when you read the contract it is not locked in for that period but rather it is 'projected level' after some period of fixed time.
