Is there a list of all PBL schools? So far, I know of only a few school that are PBL, one there is so much negativity about it that I'm a little cautious of them.

Flinders has gained so much reputation that I'm afraid I'll never be able to get in nor can I afford to pay the high cost of their tuition. My credit is so bad that if my tuition can't be paid through US federal government, I can forget about going to that school.

Outside of these two schools, I don't know which schools are PBL and also are covered under the FAFSA.

If anyone has any ideas please post.

Thanks,

Jasminegab

mcmaster university in ontario is all pbl...you won't find too many schools iwth all pbl...mac is the only one in canada with all pbl (thank god)....i don't think there are many all pbl schools...only other one i can think of is IUHS on st. kitts but that is a place to stay away from...check the aamc website (www.aamc.org).....there are no all pbl school in europe that i know of...are you really that interested in pbl? have any experience with it or exposure to it?

McMaster does not accept international students....it only takes Canadian Citizens. IUHS does not have FAFSA so I can't go there anyway. I'm not looking for an all PBL school just the first 2yrs. I'm a little worried of having to work on cadavers. And, from what I under, schools tha have PBL don't use cadavers as part of their education.

No I don't have a lot of experience with PBL. But I'm very interested in it from what I have read.

McMasters does have a quota for 10 International students each year plus they have a 3 year MD program. Their deadline is Oct 15th if yr interested in applying.

This is incorrect. Many PBL schools do not require you to take Gross Anatomy/Anatomic Dissection but they do use cadavers AND I highly recommend you take it as an elective.

Everyone is worried about dissection but you get used to it and will find it a valuable part of your medical education.

I'm afraid that if you are limited to the Stafford Loans that you will find it difficult - most of the International schools have tuitions which exceed that, especially when combined with living expenses.

i'm a little surprised to hear someone say that...i mean i guess everyone is apprehensive but to be actively looking for schools where you think there is no cadaver work? i don't see the point of entering medicine to be honest...

University of Sydney is PBL. However, you should know that Stafford will give you $18,500 for foreign med schools. You will definitely need more if you go out of the AAMC system (out of the US/Canada). You can get a TERI med loan and I don't think your credit is of particular importance. That's what most international students get (I think). However, I must also say that your avoidance of cadavers is a bit concerning. You can't be scared of the human body, at least not in this profession. I think this is something to think about unless my assumptions about your avoidance are wrong.

All the Australian graduate med programs are PBL.

So along with Flinders (Adelaide) and Sydney... Melbourne (4.5 years), UQueensland (Brisbane), and Australian National University (Canberra; new this year) are all PBL.

I'd just like to ask if the full Stafford Loan can be used for a Canadian school if you're a U.S. perm. res. What is the U.S. dollar amount (per year) you can obtain for a Canadian school?

Thanks! 🙂

Do you attend McMaster med. school? If so, what is the quality of their international pool? I hear they took only one for each of the last three years - even though they have ten slots. Does that mean that the international pool is not that great or that McMaster is not so selective with internationals? Of course, one would hope that it's not the latter case.
