Okay, I've heard lots of rumors about schools offering merit scholarships. If you all know for a fact that a school offers a merit scholarship please post the school name and any relevant info (amount, # offered, separate application required, etc). I've heard about Vandy, Wash U, Pitt, and Penn offering these scholarships and I have details on Wash U and Penn:

    1. Wash U (full tuition, ~14 offered, separate app required)
    2. UPenn (full tuition, ~7 offered, no app)

I'm not sure on the exact details but the University of Iowa awards College of Medicine Scholars $10,000 per year (non-resident). It's less if you're a resident. I'm not sure if they offer any other scholarships =)

According to the brochure that came with the interview invite, MCP-Hahnemann offers merit scholarships as well.

Sinai gives out a couple of merit scholarships. You don't apply, you are chosen.

Mellow- I'm not completely sure how students are chosen- Dr. Heinrich called me about a week or two after I was accepted (back in October) to tell me that I had gotten one (it is for $80,000). At the time I had to put a $500 deposit on it to accept it, so I did, but if I get into UPENN or Duke or a scholarship at Wash. U. I will decline it- then there will be another one available

Is it random? financial need? grades or what? I am applying to the jersey schools and I want to get in on this little free ticket too.

Mellow- I am a NJ resident. The scholarships are merit based, not financial. I don't know much about these scholarships because I had never even heard of them until Dean Heinrich called me. All he told me was that they are very competitive. I do not Know for sure, but I would assume that their goal is to keep strong applicants in NJ. Perhaps my interviewer recommended me for one? I really don't know.
