Anyone have any suggestions on where to live in Melbourne if attending Monash's Parkville Campus? I understand that it's very to close to Melbourne University. It's quite expensive to live in or near the CBD so I'm trying to find cheaper places to live.

Thanks!

Why not try some housing around Lygon st.? I have a friend living there who found some very reasonable housing.. (Note i don't actually mean on lygon st, but in the general vicinity...)

Your best bet though would be to come at least two to three weeks early and try and secure a place that way, since you won't find many good deals by searching on the web.

I lived in Melbourne for 6 month - to be more specific on the corner of Flinders and Williams. As suggested above, Carlton is probably the best bet for somewhere cheap. I looked at a place there, 1 room shared kitchen/showers for $100 per week. I found it on domain.com.au - I did not like it as it was all student, looked run down, had graffiti on the outside, bared windows, and I am a bit snotty (I ended up in 11th floor penthouse over looking the Yarra the MCG, the Casino, and over into St. Kilda. - that only cost $225 per week.) Also on Lygon street you can find places to work, the hospital is close if you are able to volunteer there. If you need my help I can get you a job at the Greek Resturant in the Casino - but they reall flog you a bit there (good tips though). You can also find rooms quite cheap, I knew a guy who lived in Caufield that rented rooms for like $60 a week - the trains in Melbourne are great but they stop around midnight so aslong as you are not staying out late you will be fine. I found taxis quite cheap there too!!

Melbourne is an awesome city - you will really like it! I certainly did.If you have any question let me know - I will certainly be able to help you out. I am not a regular on these forums, so email me [email protected]
