I've heard of various parts of the country where certain counties or even rural areas offer loan forgiveness? How common is this? Is this something that is usually done by the state or county or something that can also be seen in private group settings? With the low salaries in residency, is it possible for residents to start taking a chunk out of their debt in addition to living comfortably? or is it just common for most people to defer?

I consolidated at 3.25% 2 years ago and they were asking me to pay monthly 680.00 dollars for a 143,000 debt. That was impossible on a 40 something salary. Impossible!!
