Arizona EMT dies in Ambulance Crash

Tammy Mundell, an emergency medical technician for Southwest Ambulance, died at the scene at Arizona 87 and 287. Tammy , 29, was a resident of Apache Junction, Arizona.
According to reports, she was driving an ambulance carrying an inmate from Arizona State Prison Complex-Florence when the vehicle became involved a notor vehicle accident. Further details about the crash were not known, although it reportedly followed failure of another driver to yield at the intersection. Several other people were injured in the crash, which is under investigation by the Coolidge Police Department.
Tammy has been with Soutwest Ambulance for more than two years. According to reports she was eight and a half months pregnant and is survived by her husband and five children. Her husband said her family and co-workers are devastated, and described Mundell as a loving mother who was devoted to her family and loved her job.
Besides the EMT job, Mundell volunteered with the Maricopa Medical Rescue Posse, Maricopa County Sheriff's Posse, Pinal County Search and Rescue and Pinal Dive Team.
According to state law, Mundell's husband and five children are now eligible to receive full tuition waivers to state universities because she died in emergency service.
Another Southwest Ambulance employee, Sandra Williams, is in critical condition at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix from the crash, Weiss said. A prison inmate and corrections officer from the state prison in Florence also in the ambulance were flown to Valley hospitals.
