Hi all,
I'm a MS3, and am potentially interest in Neuro or Radiology. I know that in Neurology, that jobs are very plentiful right now. I am interested in academics. The catch is, I would like to eventually work for a large academic medical center in my home-state, but I am not necessarily interested in attending residency there (which I would think would make it much easier to get a job there, assuming I'm a good resident).
What I am wondering, is during your fellowship year, if you are interested in targeting a specific university medical center, is it appropriate to contact a Department Chair at that medical center early during your fellowship to express interest in a potential job or do you work through your residency/fellowship PD to reach out on your behalf?
I know you can obviously look online, but I'm more curious about what to do if you have a specific academic institution you're interested in working at. It seems like academic jobs/opportunities are not always posted online. I am a ways away and will obviously learn more about the process down the line, but was just interested in some early insights from those who pursued the academic path. Thanks!
