I was wondering if anyone has recieved any rejections/acceptances/waitlists from Loma Linda School of Dentistry lately. I have not heard from them in the past couple months (since interview).

Thanks!

i'm in the same boat as you. it's been more than 3 months since my interview. i called admissions yesterday and they said call them today, they'll have a better idea whether they will be sending letters out. so i guess they are gonna respond soon.

Do you think they mean acceptance letters?

I sure hope so

i called them today and they said they're sending me a letter. but she wasn't able to tell me what it was about, but it seemed she didn't even know herself. does anybody think this is good news? i hope so....

by the way i called yesterday and they were still reviewing my application, so sometime between then and 4 pm they did something

when did you interview there? that must mean i'll probably get a letter too since it's been more than 3 months. good luck to you and to me. :scared:

i interviewed in early december, and my friend interviewed the same day and time and he called and they said that he's still under review. i've been calling and e-mailing quite constantly, so i don't know if the letter means yes

I was accepted bout a month ago, From what ive heard they have pretty much filled almost all their slots.. Cross your fingers...

I interviewed late dec...

i asked them if they filled all their spots, they said not yet but are getting close. gotta wait till thursday to find out

my letter should arrive from LLU

I also recieved the same: "a letter containing your status is en route". I sure hope its not a rejection 😕

no, and i live in cali. tomorrow for sure

got it today. it was a one page letter saying that accepting students was difficult due to the competitiveness of this year. good luck guys!

They did the same thing last year! After a long period of no news, we havent decided, committe couldnt get together this week etc they sent out mass rejection letters to everyone!! but still for those waiting i wish u all the best!

I think LLUSD was waiting for as many SDA applicants to apply as possible. I am curious to know if there were any practicing SDA applicants who were rejected from the school.

That's not cool😱

I saw SDA applicants are rejected, too.

But were the SDA applicants rejected at the same rate as the non SDA applicant pool? Also, were there signficant differences in GPA/DAT scores between the two applicant pools?

I don't think being SDA is the goldent ticket some people seem to think it is.

Regardless, you still have to be competive (ie - good stats or something that makes you stand out)

I know one person who is SDA and has been rejected multiple times from LLU.

If you aren't competitive (ie - low stats) then you won't be accepted.

And LLU recieves a ton of applications, so they are probably choosing the cream of the crop.

do you know your friend's stats by any chance? I'm SDA and haven't hear back yet.

My point, all dental schools are getting quite competitive.

I know someone who is SDA and has been rejected multiple times from LLU dental school. I know two people who are SDA/very competitive who were only accepted the 2nd time they applied to LLU medical school.

Tooth decay . . . LLU doesn't need to wait around for SDA applicants. They recieve tons of applications (SDA/non-SDA) and they have the luxury of choosing the cream of the crop. They like well rounded applicants who will fit in with their philosophy of service. But if someone isn't accepted . . that's because LLU is extremely competitive and hard to get into! It may make us feel better to place blame elsewhere, but the truth is that not even being SDA or having good stats can guarantee you an acceptance at LLU.

Yeah, yeah . . . you'll tell me being SDA helps. But honestly, it's not the golden ticket people seem to think it is.

The answer to this could be obtained by examining the breakdown of their entering class from past years in terms of proportion of SDA applied/accepted to non SDA applied/accepted and their stats. However, since I am not going to LLUSD or have access to this information, I will leave this to others who may be interested. By the way, I do not recall anywhere where someone is being "blamed".

Good luck to everyone who applied to LLU! I hope you all get in!

Hey for anybody who got rejected/accepted, did they update your status in AADSAS?

Anybody get their letter yet? I called them and they said that I was still under review.

I got mine yesterday, and it was (as expected) a rejection. To answer another question, no, they have not updated AADSAS to reflect this change. Good luck to all of you-hopefully better than mine.......

well i called monday and she said a letter went out that day about my status. I'm hoping that since it didn't go out last week it has better news in it!

Why is Loma Linda so secretive about application status? Kinda a funny school. Their interview was especially unique: i flew down, took two days off, spent lots of money, for nothing more than 2 hours at the school. Oh well, we'll see what happenes

I just got rejected as well. I've been told by reliable sources that Loma Linda generally accepts a freshmen class between 70%-80% SDA.

got the letter that says i got the boot.....3 1/2 months of waiting and now the dream is gone.

I would not be surprised. That would explain a lot.

It is interesting that the link shows the number of SDA applicants, but does not show how many of the SDA applicants were accepted.

Yes.. So, lets speculate and make up meaningless stats for fun...😀

So if we say that 50% (to be conservative) of the class is SDA, this means approximately that for the class of 2010:

47 out of 94 would be SDA. (about 50%)
47 accepted out of 195 applicants = 24% acceptance ratio for SDA
47 accepted out of 1812 "other" applicants = 3% acceptance ratio for non-SDA

So, as anyone could have guessed on their own - it helps to be SDA when applying, but it is not a guarantee of admission. 😀

Of course LLUSD has the right to do and choose anyway they want to secondary to them being a private university. But, given that if most of their accepted students are SDAs, they should be upfront with their "Christian" applicants and let them know they are probably not of the right "denomination" to be admitted.

SDA Schools/Acceptances:

Andrews: 5, Candian University College: 1, Columbia Union College: 2, La Sierra: 16, Pacific Union College: 21, Southern Adventist Uni: 2, Southwestern Adventist Uni: 1, Union College: 1, Walla Walla: 9.

58 Total SDA. I'm sure there are many many more who applied and didn't get accepted.

So, not counting SDA who went to non-SDA schools:

58 out of 93 in the class of 2010 = 62% of the class is SDA
58 SDA accepted out of 195 SDA applicants = 30% acceptance rate
35 accepted out of 1812 "other applicants" = 2% acceptance rate

Ouch!

So being an SDA gets you accepted at 15 times the rate of a non SDA. The chance of a non SDA being accepted at LLUSD is even lower than getting into Harvard. Why not just call it for what it is?

1) What is the chance of getting accepted to Harvard?

2) What are we calling it for what it is?

According to PreDents.com the ratio of accepted to applicants is 35/786 which is about a 4.5% acceptance rate at Harvard Dental. What I would call it is to liken it to a school which accepts a handful of minorities so it can call itself diverse.

We only take SDAs.. unless you have 3.7 gpa and 21 across the board.

we wanted to find out if you're a true SDA.

That is what I would call it........

My question for you, Toothdecay is what is your Loma Linda status?

Elimenopee did you hear yet?
