I tend to make mistakes on counting 2-3 questions.... I don't know if this is due to my lack of concentration or stupidity
but anyways
how do i not make mistakes on this one??? besides counting well! 😀

Do u make mistakes on the illusion cubes? or is it just a stupid counting error? if its a stupid counting error are u counting the total number of cubes right? I'd need to know what your doing wrong to give u advice...

Cube Counting (asking 2sides/3sides/....5 sides are painted)

i knowww, it is pretty dumb to incorrectly count haha but i do... 🙂

Hmmm Im not sure what you mean...

the way I do it is i do

Total cubes
1-
2-
3-
4-
5-

and then mark it and count it again to make sure it adds up to the total cubes. I don't really understand your reply post about what kind of mistakes you make.

yea, i do the same way. lol the mistake that I'm talking about is that counting cubes wrong.

For example, lets say a given structure has 4 three-side-painted cubes.
As I do problems, I count 3 or 5 and get that question wrong.

On average, I think i get wrong 2-3.. 🙁

I can't change a fact that I'm a ******* but I'm looking for a method to double-check the answer since cube counting is the easiest section.

Of course, I could redo the problems to double-check. However, that would be too time-consuming.

Fill me in if you know effective way to double-check, Brah!

This is how I did this section.
I wrote down Top, middle and bottom and then counted how many cubes are in each row and wrote it on the left. Then I counted the sides painted and marked it on the right. So that made sure that I am not over counting/under counting.

I was the same with cube counting, always missing 2 or so from 1 particular picture. I'm not sure if there is any good way to check, but I just practiced more. I have the royal flush version of CDP so they have cube counting separate from the test so I used to do it in bursts of 5 images like twice a day. I would do an extra image for every picture I messed up on. I found that it has helped my speed/accuracy and confidence because I don't miss any. Another thing is just to take your time and do not feel rushed. Adding an extra 15 seconds to each picture isn't going to kill you in the long run on the PAT if it can save you 2pts.

I agree with nunnya, it's all a matter of practice with CDP until your mind gets accustomed to counting cubes, and take your time when counting (not too long of course). My strategy was to practice with CDP until i didnt even need to count the sides of the cubes, i just glanced at a cube and recognized how many sides it had, not to be bragging or anything like that, it's just that practice makes perfect in my book!

Also u should do the method where you number ur board from 0-5 and then tally up the cubes according to the number of sides they have, and if your not sure if you miscounted, then count the total number of cubes in the image and it should match the total number of tally marks you have on the board. this method got me 100% accuracy every time!!!

hope this helps!!!

The reason why you get 2-3 wrong may be just because you only get one cube wrong in one figure. It's like if you miscount too many 3's then there will be more 2's and less 4's for instance. Even keeping track of the total count and comparing to your tallies will not save you from this.

My strategy to avoid this.
-Spend 5 or so seconds scanning the whole figure for trouble spots
-Count in a consistent way every figure no matter what it looks like (front to back, bottom to top, left to right)
-I would literally count upwards as I am assigning a number to each block (1-2-3...1-2...1-2-3-4) this is a huge help in avoiding mistakes.

Overall this may have taken slightly more time for each figure, but I literally only got less than perfect on cube counting on 1 out of 8 CDP's. I am pretty confident that on the actual DAT being easier than CDP I got a 15 as well.

Cube counting is definitely one of those parts of the PAT that you can be perfect with if you are methodical and careful. Good luck! :meanie:
