Hello,

I am in undergrad and am applying to medical schools this summer. I would really appreciate some advice! Med school will obviously be very stressful... I think I would like to attend a med school where I can commute via bike... it's one of the best stress-relievers for me. I imagine taking study breaks and riding to a coffee shop. Yea, it may sound cheesy... but I think that's the way I'll like it. So what osteopathic schools are bike friendly? Is it possible to to commute between appartments, the med school, and "downtown" (wherever there are restaurants, coffee shops, etc) safely via bike at those schools? Thank you for your time!

Well, biking would require weather that won't get in the way, so I'd watch out for any northern or rainy states, unless of course you are going to relish the challenge of getting books and computer through ridiculous precipitation.
California, southern likely, is a good bet as is Texas (if you're a resident) and perhaps Oklahoma or some of the central Midwest. Although, I'm not sure of the climate in any of those locales except California. My school will likely require a car rather than a bike.
good luck!

Thanks for the tips! I will look into these regions/schools!

The two FL schools may not be bad...the rain may get in the way--but at least it isn't ice/snow/sleet....

NSU is certainly very very bike-friendly, and I know several people who commute via bike. There's also a group of students who bike along the beach at sunrise before class! I'm not quite sure about the logistics of biking all the way downtown from campus, but I'm sure it's possible. The weather is undoubtedly amazing here, but when it rains it RAINS and is no fun to bike in. Hope this helps!

dude...has everyone lost their minds!! 😀 😉 hahaha screw the weather... put on a ski mask....stud your bike tires, do what it takes. KCOM is the place for you!!! coffee shop....you got it. bike all around downtown on your lunch break...no problem. if that bores you, go to the rec center (on bike of course) and shoot some hoops...or use the hot tub, whatever!!! 😀

but seriously....i like biking too. i purposely secured close housing so i can bike to school. i don't care how bad the weather is, i am going to don my ear muffs and attempt to bike it...unless it is like rigoddamndiculous out...at which time i'll walk 🙂

trying to avoid using my vehicle as much as possible...it likes the garage just fine!!

furthermore, there is a state park adjacent to the school property. thousand hills state park i think its called. lake and everything....plenty of biking!!! kirksville is where you need to be!!!

Great info! Thank you!

I recommend Touro University-California, Touro University-Nevada, AZCOM, Western/COMP, and OSU. California, Nevada, Arizona, and Oklahoma have relatively moderate to very warm weather. Good biking conditions. All of the schools listed above have housing nearby.

Touro University-Nevada would work out very well. You could probably start your own biking club. Good luck.

I will be going to Touro NV in the fall and plan to ride my bike. For me i wanted to be within 10 miles of the school, but if i get my wish hopefully 5 miles. the only problem is that the area around the school expense to live at. Look at some of the citys on MSN. Las vegas has 170 day of great weather the other days are just really hot. What kind of bike do you have, I have a Trek 4500 and just got a road bike Raleigh sport se.

Don't forget about PCOM. Philly is one of the most bicycle friendly cities in the country.

Dude...good luck with that! I hope you live across the street from the school-because when the snow comes down hard, you aren't going to be biking anywhere! :luck:
