Hello, first time post! I'd like to ask for a little advice on what my chances look like, and how I should
I'm a graduating senior majoring in bio, looking to take 2 gap years before starting med school. I'm a little late to the party, since I wasn't sure I wanted to pursue medicine until my junior year of undergrad. My GPA is a little low (but I went to one of the most notorious grade deflating premed factories, so I hope that offsets it even a little bit...), and I am happy with my MCAT score (35). I have a distinct upward trend in grades as well, especially in my senior year. I have lots of research experience (2.5 years) working in the same cell biology lab, and also summer research internships overseas. I have one summer volunteering in a cancer center, and also worked in my school hospital's medical archives for a summer. I wasn't heavily involved in medically-related ECs my first 2 years since I played a sport for school that took a lot of my time, and I was generally a lazy @$&#. And finally......I have a gap year job secured working full-time as an ER scribe.
So what I'm asking is:
Based on my stats and ECs, what types of schools should I realistically be aiming for? DO? MD? I am a New Jersey resident btw.
I have another gap year planned after my scribe job. What can I do to improve my application?
Thanks in advance!
