Hey everyone, I was looking for some advice on my current situation. I actually just decided recently that I wanted to do something in the medical field, but I don't exactly know where to start. I asked around and that's actually how I came about this forum hahaha. Well anyways, here's my current situation:

As of right now, I am finishing up my second year at community college. I've actually been going rather slow since I've only been averaging 12 (the minimum to be full time) units a semester. On top of that my GPA is a mere 3.48 so I'm wondering if it's already too late to even consider medical school since I hear that if you don't have anything close to a 4.0 your chances are slim.

This recent decision has made me change my educational pace as well. From what I've noticed about myself, I work better when I'm under pressure. My first semester in college I had 24 units and managed a 4.0, but after my girlfriend and I got together I decided to cut back in order to spend time with her and since, my GPA started falling to B's (no C's so far though).

We decided that if I was serious about medicine (and I am), it'd be fine for me to concentrate on school once again so in the upcoming semester I'll be taking 24 units again.

Extracurricular wise, I've been volunteering at the hospital for the past 6 or 7 months and I'm currently planning to complete an Emergency Medical Technician course to get some training and perhaps a part time job as one. I've been looking for an opportunity to do more than just sit behind the information desk at the hospital, but so far I been able to find much. I'd like to be able to do some research in nephrology but I'm not even sure where to look or if it's even possible if you're not an intern or medical student.

I plan on transferring out of community college to UC Davis as a Microbiology major asap. Assuming that from the following semester onward I start doing amazing in school again and I continue my extracurricular work, do I still have a shot at medical school or would it all be pointless effort?

Thanks for the input 😀!
