Grad student: directly trains me

PhD in the lab: trains me just a few times

Both grad and PhD know my performance in lab.

PI: sits in her office

So... whom should you ask for a LoR ???

I would have either the grad or postdoc write your letter and have the professor send it. Assuming the prof is cool with that.

I had the postdoc write me the letter with PI cosigning it.
But other person in the same lab asked the PI directly and PI asked postdoc to write a paragraph or so, and she (PI) wrote the letter based on what postdoc wrote.

Definitely PI. A letter signed by a professor carries much more weight than one signed by a post-doc. Be assured, though, your PI will probably get input from people in the lab before writing your letter.
