What are some of the lowest qualifications that anybody knows of someone getting into med school? MSAR says somewhere that a very small percentage of applicants have matriculated with overall GPAs of 2.3. Is that possible?

I would suggest running a message board search. I know there have been threads regarding this before.

I would imagine that what you say MIGHT be possible if you are a URM with great EC's, a reason for such a low GPA (extremely hard course work and family issues), and are applying to an in-state school.

Otherwise, that is just a really really low GPA. Med Schools want to recruit people who can do the work, and there is no reason for a college student with a poor GPA to suddenly become a good student in med school.

In general, the premed advising committees will tell you for acceptance to A medical school you need about a 3.3 and 30 MCAT. So I would guess you can go as low as 3.0 and 27 if you meet every single criteria that would give you an advantage (URM, hard major at hard school, EC's, great LOR, etc)

I even wouldn't apply to medical school that with a sub 3.0. Now this is coming from an URM, with hardship, disadvantaged, good EC, and all. I just don't want to be in medical school knowing that I am here because I was a URM. I probably won't try my best because of that. just my $0.02.

Instead of looking, blindfolded, for a needle in a haystack, I suggest that a more fruitful use of your time would be to try and figure out what you did wrong to earn those grades and then to turn them around with enough more recent A grades to make you a viable candidate. Surely, you are not lacking in brainpower. Most low grades are situational and have little or nothing to do with insufficiency of intelligence.

An inner search is called for, not an external search.

GPA doesn't determine how good of you a doctor you will be! It's about how much you care. If you receive that diploma from your university, it means you are competent enough for anything.

GPA + MCAT ---> ability to learn/study hard/perform under stress --> traits needed to learn medical school material --> good doctors mastered the material

There are no such things as lowest qualifications as long as you've been sufficiently beat down by life, such that you can come up with lots of excuses in a convincing manner.

C'mon guys, do I really have to reveal if I was joking here?

My post was about as rediculous as the original poster's.
