Hello everyone,

I'm currently trying to decide between UIC and Loyola for next year and would appreciate info on the quality of the clerkships and clinical training at these two schools. I know UIC has rotations at a variety of hospitals and students can learn as much as they want. This is important to me, as I'm interested in eventually working in an underserved urban area and the variety of patients at the different hospitals is a big plus. I don't know alot about Loyola's 3rd and 4th years. I like Loyola's 1st and 2nd year curriculum, though.

Also, does anyone know about Loyola's residency placement rate and where students generally apply? Does anyone know if they post their match list results online?

Finally, I have heard bad things about the 1st and 2nd year curriculum at UIC, but I've spoken with some students there and they have good things to say about it, in general. They do acknowledge having some bad teachers in some classes, but they say you learn what you need to know. Any more input about this, in particular, would really be helpful.

Thanks!

well, im biased obviously. but so far i love it here. its great. why pay 20K more to go to loyola? if you go to champaign the faculty is EXCELLENT. they are some of the most dedicated and sincere people ive met. like, i even have all their home phone numbers. they are great. the chicago campus ive heard bad things about though. most of the faculty there are heavily into research and thus teaching is a 'on the side' thing that they do so that may be part of it. anyhow, some people (like gemprincess) will tell you that loyola is better than uic. but dont listen to them. uic rules! 🙂 but honestly, you cant go wrong either way. i chose uic cause i knew the first two years would be pretty much the same no matter where i went and it was the last two years that mattered to me. lots of hospital affiliations as you mentioned at some pretty nice places where youll learn a lot. especially if money is an issue id go with uic. whatever you chose, youll end up a fine physician. congrats and good luck!
