Anybody else happen to apply here? They just sent out their "first wave" of interviews and I actually kind of felt bad for them. They thanked everyone for their interest in the program and then blatantly admitted that they are inviting ALL applicants for an interview.

Why would they do this? There is no reason to admit that you need to interview everyone. It's like a dorky kid in high school approaching every girl he sees and saying "I know pretty much everyone is going to reject me so I'm asking everyone: will you be my prom date?" If you say it like that, of course you're going to be rejected.

I really never planned to go here unless I lacked enough interviews to feel comfortable, but that pretty much sealed the deal for me. Anyone else feel the same?

They were recently put on probation. They may still be, I'm not sure. Check with the RRC. They are probably assuming that you are all aware of this. They probably need to invite everyone, to be able to rank enough people to fill. Like most academic attendings, the dude that sent the letter prolly is a dork.

 You've been on an anti-academic rampage lately DreamMachine!

To the OP. You have to consider your chances of going unmatched and your preference for a given program vs going unmatched.

I have been told that the RRC is all about the paperwork. It is obviously a negative if a program is on probabtion, but doesn't necessarily mean the training is inadequate. They may have just slacked off on filling out paperwork, or they could have major hole's in their training. That's something to find out when and if you interview.

Yeah Dream, where did you train? It's interesting to see that that many others also didn't leave residency with the best taste in their mouths for all of the mindless bullcrap you go through. Would be a great idea for a thread: My residency sucked more than your residency because (blank).

If this link is updated (and it appears that it is), they are no longer on probationary status:

FWIW, I am certainly not trying to throw any program under the bus and I wish good luck to anyone interviewing there. I was just making an observation that a program that already has a lot of strikes against it with many applicants only seems to be hurting itself by drawing attention to the fact that they are less than desirable.

i didn't get an invite yet.. i guess the "we're interviewing everyone who applied" statement isn't all that accurate.

i interviewed there last year and they told us they were on probation for a a couple things (due to old leadership that had since stepped down) and that they were in the process of correcting them 🙄. the residents who we spoke to said they got good training and were supportive of the program overall.
and fwiw the pd was a nice guy and even drove our interview group back to the hotel personally in his x5.

i heard they were approved for a 2 year cycle which i think is the best they can do since they were recently on probation. maybe they are making some improvements - unfortunately they are still stuck in shreveport 👎

I noticed some major grammatical errors in several different areas of the email. So, maybe things got lost in "translation"? Who knows.

I must say, I was impressed. After reviewing the previous posts, and looking for other opinions, I was not left with a whole lot of NEW information as there has been no recent posting or discussion about this program (everything available is a few years old!).

This program is definitely on its way UP and has a lot going for it! (Apparently A LOT can happen in a short amount of time.) It is still on the smaller side in terms of the number of residents, however the faculty is diverse, largely fellowship-trained and the residents seem happy. They also got a new residency coordinator according to the residents and I liked her a lot...she was very on top of things.

It does have its drawbacks though. It doesn't appear to be a particularly "rich" department with excess financial support, and you do have to be ok with living in Shreveport (but the residents say nearby Bossier City is a very nice place to live). The program director is also a little quirky.

This program appears to be a hidden gem for those of us that want no-nonsense training and serious experience. While I'm thankful that I have a bunch of other interviews lined up, I am absolutely glad that I decided to interview at LSU-Shreveport and could definitely be happy training there.

Good luck everyone!:luck:
