hey, im going to be doing an externship this summer (basically shadow physicians in different fields)...i thought it might be helpful to have a little pocketbook to look up various diseases, terms, words, meds that i encounter. does anyone recommend a decent book that can fit in your white coat? im an M1 so i know next to nothing when it comes to the clinical setting. does anyone know of any pocket book that is user-friendly (for an M1 soon to be M2) and general enough to cover the most common things i will see with a internal medicine doc, surgeon, family, ob/gyn...etc without getting bogged down with details that wont make sense to someone who hasnt had path, pharm, etc...

thanks!

hey, it was thru my state's medical society...
check to see if your state has a program; if not, most medical schools offer some sort of early clinical experience summer program for M1s....
if that doesn't work, just organize your own. go to your school's hospital, find a few doctors and ask them if you chould shadow each one for a week or two. most wont mind.

look for "medicine in a page." if you are an M1 with no prior experience your probably need a pocket medical dictionary along with medicine in a page. have fun.

thanks for the tips! both books look awesome...ill have to go to my book store to decide on the one to get.
p.s. do these books fit in a white coat comfortably?
