If anyone has attended (or is in the middle of) a GPR program in any of these states, I would appreciate it if you could share some of your experience at your program here, and if possible, let us know what other programs in those 3 states you would recommend.

Thanks in advance.

I know this state was not in your list but since you were essentially in the New England area of preference, I thought I'd toss in Vermont. I'm currently Fletcher Allen Health Care, the only GPR in Vermont. It's kinda early in the ball game but I'm really optimistic about the place. The dental community is very well knit - "one for all and all for one" type of thing. It's a level one trauma center so there are surgeries up the wazoo...and YOU basically are the "oral surgery resident" there. Looks like you can learn a lot coz the Chief of Medical Staff is an oral surgeon (does a lot of TMJ, Orthognathic, LeForts, BSSO's in which you scrub in and do a lot!). MOST importantly, the GPR residency director is awesome, he's a site accreditor for GPR programs around the northeast...and is committed to making sure that more than enough dentistry is done at the clinic (endo, operative, prosth, implant (a couple of placements and a few being restored).
Anyhow, it's a good place...you should give it a thought if you're lookin' into programs in this region.
Oh, I interviewed at Danbury, CT and it seemed pretty good - the staff and faculty are REALLY UBER NICE! Brigham & Women's has a decent program as well...but there's a lot of emphasis on oral medicine...wasn't convinced about some clinical aspects of the program...but again, great staff and you get a certificate from Harvard which might be a good thing to have in certain situations!
Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for your detailed post.

Well, I guess you've landed an excellent program, and can tell that you're pretty excited about it.
To be quite frank, I really am not looking to get that involved in surgery. That's not really what I'm in a GPR for. I would rather take the oral medicine-geared programs (Yale, B&W, ...).
But quite honestly, I am sure you have set yourself up for quite an intense training program.
Danbury also was on my map. I don't know why, but for some reason I didn't look any further in to it.

Can you elaborate please on the B&W GPR. Are they not interested in dentistry, or is it just that you don't get to do as much clinical work as other programs would allow you to ?

Again, thanks for your great contribution.

Glad to hear from someone who's doing the VT GPR. A New England girl myself (and basically a southern Vermonter since I grew up in the northern Berkshires), I was looking at that program as a possibility. Is that the one that has the rural dentistry rotation? If so, how does that work? And it sounds like there's tons of clinical stuff, which is what I'd be interested in.

If I can ask a few detail questions: What are the hours like, and are you on call at all? Is there a didactic component? Benefits/vacation? What's the square root of 923234923? 😉

But glad to hear you're happy there....are you living in Burlington?
