Okay, so I applied to 10 schools, and completed and returned 9 secondaries/requests for money (never did hear anything from U of Wisconsin...)

Of those 9, I've gotten 2 regections and 2 interviews. My interviews were a month ago (decision delayed due to amcas not verifying my app, but I'm in the pipeline now) and two weeks ago (expecting a decision any day). The rejections both came several weeks ago.

For the last two weeks, I haven't heard ANYTHING from my other schools. Anyone else experiencing a mail box drought?

I am with you. Eleven secondaries, one interview, one rejection. Other than that, I have not heard anything. Keep your head up; I remember looking at all the the acceptances that were handed out when I first became a member last april (and later).

This isn't a normal year as you already know...patience is a virtue now more than ever before. Just because your app was verified doesn't mean your competitors' have been and schools may be waiting for those.

Is there anything worse than getting home after a long arduous and endless day of classes- running home- then opening your mailbox and getting nothing but a phone bill and an Ames catalog? Sometimes it makes me want to put my fist through the wall, but I resolve my anxiety by considering that in March, I can still enjoy the suspense of getting letters. It's fun, really, sometimes our impatience overwhelms us- that's all. Keep smiling and one day you'll get a letter. Some kind at least- maybe just a confirmation that your application's complete. But that's something!

haha.

I agree with none. Btw, empty mailbox here too.

I am having the opposite experience. I have been hoping that my mailbox is full of junk! Not that I've been getting too many interviews/acceptances (ha, ha!), but because it seems like all the schools I have yet to hear from give good news through email (or the telephone) and bad news through snail mail. I have actually gone from anticipating the mail to dreading it. The waiting is definitly the worst part of this whole process. At least we're all in the boat together. :)

Empty mailbox here too, so don't think its just you...the wait is killer. I would rather just have a yes/no from all my schools and be done with it! hopefully the next few weeks will bring some news...

I have the same problem. It's so frustrating to wait in anticipation for the mail everyday, only to get junk mail. I firmly believe that my file is sitting in the "hold" piles at many schools now. Maybe, if I'm lucky enough, I'll get a "leftover" interview in the Spring. :(

same problem....7 interviews and one rejection about three weeks ago. nothin since...8 of the schools i applied to have disappeared off the race of the earth. i thought it was becuase of verification issues, but i have been verified for a few weeks now and still nothing....

16 secondaries submitted...0 rejections...0 interviews! I'm dying here!!! :)

it pains me so much - all this waiting. I think interviewing early next year would be better, cuz then I wouldn't have to wait so long for the acceptance/rejection letters

16 sec complete, 2 sec waiting(Finch, UCSF)
3 MSTP interview, 2 MSTP rejection, 1 MD rejection. I am making 50% right now. Hope the trend continues, but I wonder. What I hope right now is, getting acceptance from the first school I interview-for the sake of relief-and from my top choice school. Two acceptances will do.

By the way, when I get a rejection letter, I cannot work since I am too depressed. When I get an interview notice, I still cannot work because I cannot concentrate.

16 secondaries completed (15 MSTP, 1 regular)
4 MSTP interviews. No mailbox action in last 10 days. I might as well have quit school. I'm hardly ever in class, and when I'm there my mind is elsewhere doing its own thing.

It's terrible - I'm in lab and all I can think about is did I get in?? It consumes my mind so much...and to think this may last until May of next year.

The story of my life. ;)

little wonder you are praying for MD :D Ha ha I'm just messing with you. You know I hope I don't flunk out this time around. I spoke with 2 of my profs and they said they'll hook me up. Though one of them is kinda sneaky and it bothers me. We'll see.

I usually don't feel too caught up in the anticipation until I'm physically kneeling (hm, is that symbolic?) before my mailbox and peering inside. Everytime I see an envelope, my heart catapaults into my mouth. Last week the envelope that sent my sweat glands into hyperactive mode turned out to be an expiration notice for my subscription to the New England Journal of Medicine. I sure hope that's not an omen.

But my own poor mailbox is aching from the same emptiness...I've yet to hear from five of ten schools for which my application is complete and which I know are offering interviews.

Same boat as SwampMan, 16 secondaries, bupkis in the box.

Has anyone come up with good/fun mental mental distractions to make the waiting game seem less like just waiting and more like game?

I can't take it much longer. Someone pray that I will make it to May, if anything.

WOW!

Good to know I'm not alone!

To None, Yeah dude/dudette, I KNOW it's early OK? Just looking for a little comraderie here. But also, It's Novemeber now...getting less and less "early" all the time.

To Morninglight, Good image--praying in front of the mail box..? I wish I were you though, with an acceptance already in my pocket. By the way, CONGRATS on that!

I have psyched myself into believing that none of my schools are going to contact me until next year (I'm in the same boat as SwampMan).

racergirl: you interviewed at MN, right? Have you heard anything? I called there on friday, and they said I should hear something by monday (today).

Hey Barton!

Yeah, I interviewed there October 5th. However, my application still wasn't verified then, and Minnesota is one of those schools that will interview you off a paper AMCAS, but won't forward your file to the committee until you're verified.

After a lot of begging and pleading, I finally got my AMCAS verified, and got them to send Minnesota a copy via Fed Ex. Minnesota told me they had received the verified app last Monday, so after nearly a month I'm finally on the way to a decision there! Lola told me last Monday I should hear withind 2-3 weeks, but I'm thinking it might be more like a month. Either way, I figure I have between 1 and 3 weeks longer to wait!

Let me know what happens with you! GOOD LUCK!!!!

i don't think you guys should stress so much. i mean, it's out of our hands now. we should keep up with the schools, call them for status updates, etc., but there's no use in losing sleep over it now. our work is done...the schools will decide whether we get in or not, nothing we can do about it now!

Just came up with one! I'm a very organized person and love making lists and schedules. So...I'm starting a list for med school (what I'll need to buy and what I plan to bring with me). Also when I'm really really restless at home and mad because i haven't received any mail, I start packing. You know, just collecting a few things from my room and around the house to put away for med school (i.e. books, toiletries etc).

Well, my mailbox is still empty...but I know it won't be for too long. U of South Alabama just called. I'll be interviewing there next week. Sorry all, I've got to hop out of "the boat" that we've been sharing. GOOD LUCK to you all.

16 secondaries/1 interview/0 rejections

I'm sure that 0 will be growing quickly!

Thin envelopes in mine..wish it was more empty! hahah

That is really funny. Nice one!

Umm it wasn't supposed to be funny

Hey racergirl!

you are famous at Minnesota!!!

well, maybe not quite but I was there on friday and was dismayed to find out from lola that my finally-verified-two-weeks-ago-after-waiting-three-months AMCAS app had not been passed along to any of my schools yet.

encouraging me to harass AAMC, lola told me a story about a girl who had bugged them so much that they over-nighted a copy of her verified app to them. i can't imagine there are many others with your story.

so anyway, any tips on getting my verified AMCAS transmitted?

GOOD LUCK!!!

Ok, so every day I go and peek inside my mailbox. I sift through the mail until I find mail from med schools. And, usually there is none.

I mean how disappointing. I should publish a book called "The Story of My Life." That is my life nowadays; going to my mailbox around 5:30 every evening like a robot. Whatever will I do when I'm out of town next week and can't perform the routine??!!

OH my GOD! I can't believe that! Oh well, hopefully it will come off as dedication rather than obsessiveness?

If you want, leave your email address and I'll tell you the whole "how I got fed-exed" story...for a price. Oh, OK, you can have it for free, but it's just too involved to post here. Lola is on the right track though--polite harrassment can go a long way!

I hope things work out for you and I. GOOD LUCK to you too! Did you see that the other MN SDN regular (Barton) just got accepted at MCW? Cool huh? I need some of his good vibes!

Pendulum,

I'm with you. I'm gonna be out of town this weekend and also Thanksgiving weekend. I know for a fact that I'm gonna be wondering about what's in my mailbox instead of having fun like I should be. But then again, I will be drunk, so maybe my thoughts will drift from the mailbox...we can only hope... ;)

As far as I know...nothing really can be done about transmittance. All you're able to do is wait. AMCAS doesn't consider it their problem. A lot of schools have problems receiving specific applications.

17 secondaries...no interview invites, no rejections...zero....zilch..zippidie do dah

im trying to be patient and attributing my empty mail box to the AMCAS problem - its always better to look at the shot glass as half full.

10 secondaries in (first ones were submitted way back in August) and I have heard nothing...no interviews or rejections.

Still twiddling my thumbs & waiting, waiting, waiting... This is excruciating.

You know, I was on a good track for a while, averaging about an interview a week. So I am just as anxious as the rest of you because now I just want more, more, more! But nothing so far this week and I am trying to keep myself sane. I must check my email about 20 times during the day and then when I walk through my front door (my roommate usually puts my mail on the kitchen table) the first thing I look at is the kitchen table, hoping, hoping and then nothin'! arg! I know some schools, like Albert Einstein, have pushed their interviewing season back into May but I don't know about other schools. FYI, I applied to 20 schools, and have officially heard from 7 (no rejections yet, thank goodness).
dlc :p

I feel ya totally on that dlc. I was getting a lot of interviews and nothing for like two weeks now. You get one and then you start to get real greedy for more... you check your email only 20x/day? :D I feel sorry for my mailbox though... in a 1-minute fit of rage and frustration, I have to smack it at least once a week. I'm going crazy!!

racergirl,

do not worry about it! lola definitely told me the story with a tone of admiration, not annoyance. email me your story, i made my email available.

after about a 3 week drought in my mailbox, i finally got another interview (northwestern) today...hang in there guys, they're coming, slowly but surely...

now if i would just get accepted somwhere...

On my flight back (from an interview, appropriately enough) today, I was dealing with the ennui by reading the in-flight merchandise catalog, and there was something there all of us would enjoy:

A MAILBOX ALERT ALARM.

I rings indoors (200 foot range) when your mail is dropped off. As it stands, I always have a Pavlovian response when I hear the postman slam the door on it and immediately go grab my mail key!

LOL! that's awesome. Now if it could only distinguish between thin and thick envelopes :)

OH my gosh!!!

Watto, I was reading through Delta's merchandise catalog, and I too came across that this weekend . I thought that was hilarious!!! :)

i'm terrible. i check email 8 times a day and stalk the mail man. i am incredibly impatient. i applied to a good number of schools and am pissed that i haven't heard A, I, or R from even 1/3 of them. grrrr <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

And I thought I was alone. 8 secs, nada from the schools

I am also going insane!!! I have tried all these techniques (staying busy at school studying, etc.) but it just doesn't work!!! As time goes on, it gets worse and worse. Please, any suggestions?

I spend my time planning fantasy vacations online. Go to expedia.com amd click away... Also a good site to plan fantasy interviews.... :D
