i have a weak overall undergrad gpa but i'm interested in doing a masters in a hard science. my lower division science grades are what have dragged my gpa down even though my upper division science grades are much much better. my question is about how competitive it is to get into a masters program. anyone out there who had a low undergrad gpa and got into a masters prog care to provide any insight as to how they did it and what i should be doing???

yep. it is possible. i got my ms in anatomy. for the first semester, i was accepted on probation (as an unclassified student- ie. i had to hold off joining a research lab and was only allowed to take 2 classes at a time), and pending how i did that semester, i would gain entrance. i did well, and was a "classified graduate student" by the spring semester. and then did well through out my time there. so its possible and now im applying to md schools.

Hi sanny, I'm somewhat in the same position as DoubleOSeven. Although I want to go to medical school really bad and will however apply to med schools without a doubt. My question is what graduate school did you attend to and what was your undergraduate GPA in college. Also in your MS Anatomy program, did you get to work on cadavers? and did you have to write a thesis.

Thanks,

Good Luck on your endeavors to Med School!

hi sanny and spotless, yeah my question to sanny is the same as what spotless posted...i'm just really anxious about applying to MS progs because i don't know much about how competitive they are as far as admissions go. where did you do your masters?? how has it been going as far as applying to med schools?

I've been accepted to all the grad schools I've applied thus far.

It's not nearly as competative as med school, but you need to really watch out for deadlines. Many schools will accept MCAT in Leiu of GRE scores...so that's a huge plus. If you want to knwo where I'm headed you can PM me and I'll tell you when I figure that out myself. Plus ican tell y'all where I applied or if you need any help.
