Does anyone know how to obtain statement of need letter for family medicine from province of Alberta.

How easy/hard is this process? I am a canadian citizen who matched in US for family medicine residency, but just found out that Alberta doesn't provide statement of need letter for family medicine specialty.

Anyone from Alberta can you please elaborate on this situation. What should i do? and whom should i contact?

Please reply I am in dire need of some advice.

hey fmresidency,

from what I understand, Alberta, unlike other provinces such as Ontario (that give a J1 visa automatically to students matching in a US family med programs) do not give out automatic J1's out.

I believe you had to have gone through the CARMS match first, and if you received Canadian interviews, you have to go to them. Then if you don't successfully match through Carms, Alberta can write you a letter of support for a J1 if you were successful through the ERAS match.

This policy however, may have since changed.

I wish you good luck and keep us posted how this plays out.
