what kind of rest? I think usually people do their dental degree first, with some training experience. then you do your medical degree (but are entitled to work as a max fax sho/registrar) and proceed through the medical pathway. --> foundation years --> training as a surgeon --> max fax specialist scheme.

thanks .. and what about mds ? do they only do the missing dental degree and then start training for maxfax or do they need to work as a dentist first ?
can u do locum while u r in dental school?

to be honest, i think it generally works better if you do your dentistry first, since max fax is a surgical pathway. However, if you did you md first then I can't really see why you couldn't do locums during dentistry training.

There is a user on SDN named EuroOMFS.. and I think they may be the best person to help on SDN with any questions regarding Maxfacs training in UK/Europe.

In the UK you can do either degree first. It is still generally more common (even in the UK) to complete your dental degree first.

I would also suggest you email the BAOMS (british association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons). They will be able to provide you with some definitive answers.

Good luck!
