Mayo Alternate List

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Of those interviewed, approx. 20% are accepted with 30-35% being placed on the wait-list. Rejected applicants are notified as soon as possible.

Applicants are notified in mid-April if they have been placed on the alternate list. Greatest movement from the list occurs from May 15-June 1.

[Whether it will be of benefit or not, I don't know, but it should do no harm to write a simple, short letter to indicate your interest in remaining under consideration. Again, whether it will do any good or not, if you have significant new information to add, do so briefly in the same letter. Do not be a beggar.]

i think that the mayo "hold" list can be dynamic regardless of their claim that you'll hear back in april if you're on the alternates list or not.

case in point: my girlfriend was accepted to mayo in late december, 2 weeks after being told she was on the "hold" list and would probably be put on the alternates' list in april.

i seriously doubt that mayo gives all underrepresented minorities who are accepted a full scholarship, but it's possible. mayo's got a very good financial aid program (will all students getting at least a 1/2 scholarship!! who hoo.. that's such a plus on that school.) the scholarship that was offered to my gf is listed in the mayo view book as offered to draw "students of diverse backgrounds" or something similar. i guess that with such a small enrollment mayo may have a hard time trying to round out a diverse class. it's a great school and i hope that you hear good news soon.

Thanks for the info dxn!! I hope you and your girlfriend hear mutually good news soon!!

I was just curious what everyone thought of Mayo and Rochester. I am considering their M.D./Ph.D. program and have some reservations. I'd just like to hear what everyone else thought.
