Hey I was wondering what airline all of you who are interviewing at Mayo are going to use. I usually use American Airlines, but I checked the prices to Rochester and its over 500 bucks! compared to 180 for Chicago 🙁. Anyways I don't really feel like dishing out half a grand to fly to Minnesota so if any of you guys have suggestions that'd be great! Thanks!

Try Northwest. Minneapolis is their main hub. You might also want to consider driving to Rochester from Minneapolis.

👍

I live in MN and you will probably find a cheaper flight to Minneapolis. Rochester is only about an hour drive from the airport.

Airline is not the issue here. It's your choice of Rochester vs. Chicago. You should fly to the city known as Minneapolis. Try the discount airline websites. I got a flight to the east coast for $99 one way yesterday on Air Tran.

Good luck!

EDIT: ok, I see several people already posted the same thing. Sorry for the repetition. But take our advice and you will find sub-$500 flights! 🙂

You fly to Minneapolis and there are 2 different shuttle from the Minneapolis airport to Rochester w/drop off at any of the Rochester hotels or at Mayo. If you check Mayo's website for transportation you will find links to the shuttle services. Each way is 1-1/2 hrs. and the shuttles run all day and evening are very reliable!

Try priceline.com, and make sure to select "name your own price"

Also, try sun country (www.suncountry.com)

They have one flight to and from LA everyday and the cost is about $200.

can you tell me why they're so cheap? is it because they only fly near midnight?

also, i actually like the fact that i will be arriving in the morning, since i don't have to waste money on hotels, but it arrives at 5:15 at minneapolis. the interview is at 8:30, and do you think this is enough time to make it to mayo?

Technically, yes, but I wouldn't suggest it. If ANYTHING goes wrong, you won't make it in time, or you will be you'll be frazzled by the time you get there. It's about an hour and a half drive from MSP to Rochester, depending on the weather (it snowed almost 2 feet the night before m interview, although I didn't interview until Jan.) and the shuttle schedule. Plus you'll be up all night flying...probably not much sleep. I don't know, doesn't sound like a great plan, but thats just IMHO...

Good luck!

Fly into Minneapolis and take either Rochester Direct or Rochester Express airport shuttles. You can find both of these online:

http://www.rochesterdirect.com/
http://www.rochesterexpress.net/

This is much cheaper than adding the extra leg into Rochester and likely will get you here in about the same amount of time.

Good luck.

Northwest was over $800 for me and American was over a grand (for coasch!!) to fly into Rochester. Also, on American, they were going to have me fly into Minneapolis, than catch a flight to Chicago to take me back to Rochester, which would take longer than the shuttle. Needless to say, I'll be flying into MSP; $200 is much more in my price range even if it requires a shuttle.
