Has the Mayo waitlist moved yet??? 😱 This is ridiculous if it's the 15th tomorrow and the waitlist has not moved....

Where have you been dude? Unless Mayo is special and they require that people tell them whether they're going to attend or not in early May or something, most of the movement will occur late May through June. You've got a couple more weeks left before you have to obsessively check your e-mail/voicemail. 🙂 Good luck.

i had heard from the office that traditionally, it moves during "the first part of May"... which is why im getting a bit flustered 🙂

It should start moving soon after the 15th and usually keeps moving to some extent into June (at least that is the way it has been the past several years). Dont give up hope if you really want to come here.

I emailed the admissions office yesterday, and they responded that they have already offered a few positions from the alternate list and that they may also offer more next week. Keep waiting everyone...........arrrrrrrrrgggggh..............................

Dont freak out (yet). They usually go almost one whole class (or a little less) down the wait list to fill up the class for next year. Some people wont even find out they got in until early June. You still have time. Good luck.

Actually I do not think that this year that will happen...from my understanding the class is almost full. I do not think many folks have rejected Mayo this year.

hey efex, any idea on how full? I hadn't heard how many people ended up withdrawing from Mayo. But it sounds like there has been some decent movement in the past week and a half. Anyone else hear anything? I'll probably call tomorrow...

Actually I do not think that this year that will happen...from my understanding the class is almost full. I do not think many folks have rejected Mayo this year.

All I know is that the past three years they have gone almost a full class down the list. Last year they went somewhat less (we were really popular for some reason) so I cant be positive, but it is still to early for the class to be full. They havent told us they have filled the class yet.

Im telling you not to give up. It may not happen but dont give up until you are 100% sure it wont happen and it isnt to that point yet.

I think but I may be wrong that there were for sure 20 something folks going for sure (M.D) and remember that 2 spots are the dds/oms folks, and I think 4 spots are md.phd so at least 6 spots of the 42 are spoken for, and then that leaves 36 for md so maybe there were like 10 spots offered for wl? but I am not totally sure...

From our interview day, I remember them saying that last year they changed the process for giving out acceptances. Something to the effect of the Admissions Committee still ranks all the candidates, but that Dr. Barrier has more leeway to handpick the candidates, and for that reason instead of going almost a whole class down the waitlist like past years, only 12 or so spots were offered off the waitlist last year. Hope that helps clarify, I don't know what that implies for those of us waiting this year.

Actually we normally have 6 MD/PhDs per class and 2 OMS students so that leaves only 34 spots for MDs. If there truly are already 20 people that are speaking for places in the class than there probably arent too many spots left open. But you never can count on what people say until they have put their money down. As for the whole Dr Barrier thing, I dont know what that means, I havent heard that. I assume though that all that means is that in an effort to bring diversity they will try to replace drop outs with people off the waitlist who have a similar profile. Cant say for sure though. Still... they always want the best students here so I cant imagine that they will stray too far from the rankings that have been set by the committee.

Still... I wouldnt give up on it all until they tell you that the class is closed. My year, someone got accepted two days before classes started b/c we start so early and someone ended up getting in elsewhere.

Ya, there's supposed to be 6 of us MD/PhD folks, but for some reason, there are 8 people on the email Mayo sent me last month. Either they expect 2 people to drop out before classes start in July, or they're expanding the program (I doubt that). Sorry if that's a downer for you folks on the waiting list, but hang in there. Good luck, and I hope I get to see y'all next year!

I think there are 8 MD/PhD's this year to make up for last year when there were only 4 taken. Last year's class total (with the 4 MD/PhD, and the 2 OMS) made up 44...2 more than they normally like. Don't know if they will try and go 2 less this year or what. But I do think there are a total of 8 MD/PhD this year (especially since they lost 1 PhD from the 2nd year class (switched to MD only) and last year's class had only 4, the graduate school needs to catch up).

So there is no-one in the office to give accurate info until next week... sigh. Anyone know anyone on the waitlist who is accepted and is not taking it? I'm wondering when to give up hope.... This process is getting to me.... I mean, you do so much to tell a school you like them.... and yet, everything you do is ignored. I really wonder how admissions works sometimes... Sigh. Anyone have ANY insight on how the admissions works for real? I mean in he other years they have accepted nearly 80 to fill their class, but I doubt that will be the case this year (like last year)... I think they will need a max of 55 to fill up... But do people really withdraw during June/July?

Havent been into the office lately so I dont know the specifics about this years class yet, but in years past the wait list has gone into the middle of June and as I said before people have even been taken the day before classes start. Dont pull your name from the list, let them give you the final word. You never know what will happen.

On a positive note they havent told us that next years class is full/solidified yet and they are usually pretty good about that.

Sorry I cant give you anything more definative.
