I wanted to know what is the healthiest foods to eat the night before, the morning of and during the MCAT????

I would think....the same things they tell athletes the day of their events. A light breakfast that's carb rich, as that's your fastest source of energy. Little protein (ie no loading up on bacon, etc) cuz many protein-rich foods increase levels of tryptophan which ultimately make you sleepy. Bring a "light" lunch with things that aren't highly glycemic (i.e. not orange juice, potatoes, bananas) b/c although carb-rich, your insulin levels will rise dramatically to meet the glucose intake and might make you crash. Better off with low glycemic carb foods - breads, etc. Yogurt and fruits can be good. :) . Oh, and while you want to eat enough to make you feel full, the more you eat, the more glucose = the more insulin = the more sleepy. Don't overeat and cause food coma.

Urgh, dude, chill. Eat whatever you want. It's not gonna make a damn bit of difference. Everyone talks about eat this and that so you're not tired, etc. Trust me, the morning of the MCAT, you'll be WIDE awake. Eat what you usually eat. For me that was dunkin donuts coffee and a double choc donut :) --Trek

heh, as odd as it sounds thought of the same thing. Im eating light, sandwhich the night before. banana and yogurt in the morning and another sandwhich at lunch prob.

want to eat enough for the energy and stuff, but dont want to overeat so you wont get as tired during the test.

TWO WORDS: RED BULL

I don't know what you "should" eat but......hey <img src="http://www.duhspot.com/users/smiley/s/cwm/cwm/thinkerg.gif" alt="" />you definately want to stay away from those nachos and anything with beans........... <img src="http://216.40.201.155/s/contrib/edoom/fart.gif" alt="" />

I was too tense to eat anything at the lunch break. If fact, I had such a massive tension headache/nauseous stomach that I didn't even want dinner.

I'm with idiot. I was SO nervous I couldn't eat much at all. I do suggest bringing your lunch though, there may not be any food available where you test.

On a side note I brought my absolutely favourite things to eat - something had to make me happy on that crap ass day.

Don't drink too much OJ/coffee/tea in the morning. I had to pee so badly during the verbal I could barely read a sentence by the end!

Don't over-analyze this. Just bring whatever food you'd normally like to eat for lunch. Don't worry about getting sleepy -- your adrenaline will be flowing enough to prevent that. And just chill out during the break when you are eating. Don't freak out and try to study like some people -- the break is too short, and you are better off just relaxing and eating something. Have fun -- when it's over you are going to tell yourself that it isn't as bad as you thought it would be.

Mellow,
Those graemlins are Killer :D
They are so awesome

My MCAT testing station was around the corner from my friend's apt. So during the lunch break I walked over to his apt. Ate some pre-made spaghetti (I ate it for dinner before too) and watched tv. I was super chill.

My MCAT day lasted 12 hours due to my proctor who had a 1st grade reading level. I was glad I brought those 4 powerbars with me in addition to lunch because I was hungry!!!!

Red Bull. Think about it, Red Bull is more or less sugar (glucose). Your brain uses only glucose for energy so Red Bull as the test day drink of choice makes sense. Man I'm geek for thinking this far into it.

Wow. You guys really like to make things far more complicated than they need to be...

I just had some fruit for breakfast, I think. And then a friend of mine and I went to Subway for lunch, and wandered around for a bit to relax. It was a beautful day (80s, sunny), so it was nice to just go for a walk.

I really don't think what you eat makes any difference, to be honest. :D Just do what you normally would do! And remember to go out and celebrate afterwards. :D

Honestly, I wasn't really that stressed out about the whole thing. By that point in time, I'd written a pile of practice tests, and I wrote in both April and August, so by the time August came around, I was pretty used to the whole MCAT concept... That's the nice thing about writing it in August.

VERY IMPORTANT:

I am a caffeine addict, and I'm sure some of you may also be, so PLEASE learn from my mistake. I always got tired during the practice FL's, so for the real mcat I made a concoction of instant cofee with ice cubes, milk, and chocolate syrup. I drank this throughout test day for energy. I must have put about 5 cups worth of caffeine in it, but did not think about this while I kept sipping it (ok, chugging it) in between sections (I had put it in a water bottle). So of course it made me very alert during the test, but by the end of the BS section, I developed a blinding migraine. That's right, I could barely see the bubbles let alone fill out the right ones! I don't care about having a headache, but blurred vision and scantron bubbles don't mix!!! I ODed on caffeine on MCAT day!!! Please don't let this happen to you. Be careful!

ANyway, to answer the question, for breakfast I ate a bagel and a banana (good energy). For lunch I ate the usual-turkey sandwich, an apple, pretzels, and my coffee-concoction (BAD!). Don't eat anything that's hard to digest, you don't need your stomach making funny noises during the writing sample.

Another thing: BUY ERASABLE BLACK PENS!!! worked like a charm, although a little smudgy. It is a neat way to correct mistakes for the writing sample :) Buy them now, a whole pack, and practice using them. They are good! Cross outs are ugly and you know it!

1. eat whatever makes you feel nice and full.

2. don't worry about falling asleep. if you find yourself falling asleep during the MCAT you should probably go to the doctor or something.

3. eat foods that make you fart so it throws off the concentration of those sitting next to you :D

I ate chocolate during both of my breaks. I was convinced the sugar would give me a rush but it was really just an excuse to eat chocolate b/c I am a chocolate freak.
