Do any U.S. schools have MCAT cut-offs? If so, does anyone have an specific examples? I'm particularly curious about cut-offs for individual sections. I want to know so I can save money and not even apply to the schools where I'll probably just be screened by a computer. Thanks.

Of all the school websites I've visited, each school claims to have no MCAT or GPA cutoffs.

Probably a combo. of that and the fact that these school all send secondaries so they get to collect an easy $100 from people who have no chance.

if you call them up you might get em to squeel. MD/PhD offices tend to be more loose lipped when it comes to "cutoffs" too if that helps.

It's the truth. why would UM or Hopkins send secondaries to all AMCAS applicants including those with sub 3.3 GPAs and sub 28 MCAT who realistically have about a 0.1% chance of being admitted there?

    No, I totally agree.

Sometimes I think that someone in the Admission committees pockets those poor applicants secondary fees.

Just to clarify, is it an 8 average for each section?

They won't accept anything less than 8 in any section, apparently. I know somebody who was conditionally admitted and the condition was that she should retake the MCAT to get the PS section about 8 before matriculation. This was somebody with a few inside connections, too, so that may have played a role.

A UVA admissions rep once visited my alma mater and said they do not accept eights in either of the three sections. From this perspective, the minimum MCAT they would accept is 27. Their averages, unless I'm mistake, bounce between 31 and 32. There has to be someone there who scored less than a 27.

Not necessarily. Even if they had a number of applicants in the 40+ range.....a large enough number of applicants with 27-30 will drag this down to a 31-32 average without anyone having to score below 27.
