OK i dont know why i waited this long to post this thread, i guess i forgot for a while, but im really superstitious and i was wondering if anyone else had any other weird test quirks. for instance iive used the same pencils for all of my practice tests and MCAT, and the 3 of them have special roles. only one can be used to bubble in the answers on the sheet, the other one is only used for erasing, and the third is used for calculations. i put little marks on them so i knew which ones were which. lol. i dont knwo how this started but i got so comfortable with them like that i didnt wanna change anything bc i was doing well on the practice tests, lol. also i only listen to one song before all big tests, over and over again. Angel by sarah mclaughlen-it seems to put me in such a relaxed mood 😉

anyone esle as neurotic as me??

Not really the same kind of thing, but it was kind of funny in retrospect. I used the Kaplan method of timing where you set your watch to noon and then you can easily tell how much time is left in the section. Well, on one of the practice tests I though, "gee, maybe it would be even easier if I set my watch to 10:20 and that way the section ends at noon"...well, I looked at my watch part way through the section and it said 11:30 (but I read it as 1:30), thinking I had only ten minutes left I blasted through the last three passages...turned out I had 30 minutes! Good thing I did this on the practice test and not the real thing.

My only neurotic obsession was that maybe my mechanical pencil was not #2 lead!!!!!

LOL.... i did well on one of the practices so on the actual test day i had to wear the same outfit... socks and all

LOL  of course they were freshly laundered... i was just very sure to keep the whole schebang together

I bought new pencils for MCAT practice and used the one pink one (my fave color) to take the test. In addition, I meditated before each of the sections. Lastly, I definitely put 30 bucks under my pillow. I originally wanted to put 24, but I couldn't break a 10. LOL. :luck: :luck: :luck:

LOL, youre better off with the 30 anyways, its a much better score than the 24 woulda been!!

Definitely, but all I need is straight 8s and an M...so I didn't want to seem overzealous to the MCAT gods...GO ME! :luck: :luck: :luck:

Havent taken the mcat yet, but on midterms i m always paranoid about bubbling in answers, i double and trip check my bubbles to make sure i didn't bubble sloppily and that i bubbled in the right answers.

I had a friend who once missed bubbled on a question, he put his number 12 answer in the number 11 row and the rest of the exam he got all the answers mixed up.

The professor let him fix it though.

LOL! I was like that too. It was funny because my outfit was a turqouise blue velvet workout outfit.

I also used the same mechanical pencil, even after I accidently ripped off the hooked part that can like hang on stuff. It was a sharp edge but made it easy to recognize. 😀

In high school and college I had my lucky test taking pants, a pair of old cammies with lots of pockets, that I wore to all standardized tests. I took the MCAT in those originally.

I bought lots of pens and pencils, which made me feel more prepared. And instead of camo pants (which would look silly on me now) I've got a lucky test taking T-shirt.

I wore scrubs and a stethoscope to the mcat. Made me feel like i was already a doctor.

lol, not really.

I took the MCAT naked. That way I distracted everyone else so I could beat the curve. j/k

I brought my lucky pen with me. I couldn't use it, but helped support me through some of the harder questions.

When I took the first AAMC practice test, I used a new pencil. Since I did well on that test, I used the same pencil on the next AAMC practice exam. Since I did well on that one too, I used the same pencil on the real MCAT, even though there was no eraser left and the clip was broken.

I'm keeping that pencil for the rest of my life. If only I could fill out secondaries and do interviews with a pencil...

EDIT: I also wore my favorite clothes, socks, and shoes to the test. Luckily it was a cool day.

I also had that neurotic obsession. Even though it was clearly marked as a #2 pencil, I was worried that maybe the pencil company lied to me. And even though it all scanned okay on the practice tests, I worried that the machines would scan more thoroughly and discover my #2 mechanical pencil as the imposter that it was.

EDIT: I am also scared to check my score again, in case my checking the score too much makes it change somehow.

It's funny, because normally I am not supersitious at all. But when it comes to the MCAT, I am apparently totally neurotic.

I didn't ever think of it as a superstition until now, but for all the diags and the actual MCAT I wore the same socks (washed each time)... they were greenish-blue with little beach chairs on them and they had the word "relax" written all over them 🙂

I thought I was superstitious for using the same pencil and shoes I used during the practice tests I did well on...the whole outfit thing is taking it to the next level! Looks like I'll have to try that for the usmle...
