As the 2014 MCAT cycle draws near I feel pressed for time. If I do not feel prepared by November would it be acceptable to take the MCAT twice in January? If I do not do well the first time then I would have a second attempt to fall back on.

Yes, you can (provided you can find a non-full testing center).

It's risky if you don't void your first attempt cause you won't be able to see your scores.

So if you don't void the first attempt, you better be certain (and possibly hope) that you failed badly (looks bad to retake a good score).

Of course, you could just decide it's not worth the risk and just void your second attempt.
