So, I keep hearing all this talk about how people who have like 3.96 and getting not so good MCAT scores. I'm wondering what schools you all are doing your undergrad at and what your majors are. Do med schools look at the GPA and what school you go to or look at just the GPA and MCAT score? It's weird because I go to UC Davis, and not that it's like the hardest school ever, but I have to admit, i've taken it straight up the pooper a few times with grading <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> . I have a 3.56 and that's from having no life at all. Would I have had a better advantage if I went to a state school and had a higher GPA?? (I'm not trying to say that state schools are easier, but in california, a lot of them are) Thanks a lot

I think it's always better to have the highest GPA, but going to a name brand school can sometimes help a lowish GPA.

Hey, I went to Davis too, and I had a 3.54 GPA when I finished.

I got screwed when our OChem professor (who at that time had just been hired) decided he was god and flunked half the class. Two quarters in a row. I ended up getting two C+s in a row in his class.
He was then fired.

Messed up my grades though...oh well.

Yeah, I graduated in 1998, worked in the Silly Valley for two years, then applied to 8 schools because my MCAT scores were going to expire...UCD, UCI, MCW, and a few others. I was one of the first six people UCD interviewed that year (everyone else was from Harvard, Columbia, Yale)...but only got onto their waiting list. Irvine sent me their secondary in late March, so I never returned it. I had better luck out of state :)

I'm a M3 now. I miss the smells of Davis...

Mark: how can you miss the smells of davis.. it's like a giant fart being wafted throughout the town!! :) Anyway, I got screwed in Ochem too, but also in Bio 101. I had Dr. Sanders..and Dr. Nasiri.. they both gave me my only C+'s at Davis, further screwing my GPA forever!!
