I just finished my MCATs last Sat and I was wondering how should I go about ordering the AMCAS, and how long must the personal essay be in terms of pages.

For the AMCAS, go to the AMCAS Web Site.

I think the personal statement is max 5000 characters.

Now if I lived in an easy state, oh, I dunno, like North Dakota, where everybody gets in, then no, I wouldn't have a problem. But the sad reality is that we Florida peeps are getting royally screwed over by this state. If I gotta reapply, then damnit, I'm gonna get into UF. They at least gotta give me an interview if I bump up the MCAT's a few points, don't they? Please say yes? How's Pchem?

right now you shouyld be finishing up your personal statement, and from May to June you should be entering data (or getting it ready) on amcas. Get a copy of all of your transcipts now so it will be easy for you to type in every single class you ever took. :p

I agree with Foxy with one acception. The thing you should do first is relax. Chill out for a bit and forget this whole awful process. As you can see from all our postings you will have tons of time to worry later. Then, in a bit, start on that AMCAS. Who knows how things will go this year, but get a head start as it will feel so good not to be cramming with everyone else to get it done at the deadline.

I agree with Foxy (as usual :) !) I would be working on my PS so that you can get the whole AMCAS with! I assume you've had enough of a *breather* after last Saturday so hunt around for some good thoughts! Also try to organize your EC so that you know what you want to mention and how they're important in like the obnoxiously low amount of characters AMCAS wants! And I would read Jalbrekt's thread too...alot of us posted on there to help out you guys :D

True, don't forget to relaz too! But it doesn't take a month to get ready for amcas--I did it in one night! But the personal statement I did spend a lot of time on throughout the semester, and I took it to the writing center at my school several times. I think the essay is very important and you should try top take it to some professionals to help you out (like professors or writing tutors if you have some at your school). Some people get it edited by a service, but only do that after you have edited it yourself like crazy and have the $ to shell out.

    Papa,

No, UF doesn't have to interview those who improve their score. You know my story. Plus 4 points and no interview. :( Down with FL schools!!!

I'm sorry you had to take the exam again. It sucks big time!

Read Jalbrekt's Guide to Applying for a good idea of what to do and what to expect.

Hehe, I need to get away from SDN, since I was thinking about this thread during class today.

Right now is the best time to make sure your recommendors have handed in your LORs to your premed committee if you have one. Get on their a$$es ahora (now)! You don't want any surprises in July, do you?

I agree with Dra. Foxy -- get your LOR's organized, whether that means getting them into a committee, or into your school's letter forwarding service. If you wait much longer, all the profs will be swamped, and the letters won't be ready when you need them. And start working on making your PS a compelling read. I'd say these two things are the top priority. But mpp is right, Jalbrekt's thread gives a very nice overview of the whole process.

    PARTY.....wahhhoooooooooo

After your blood alcohol level equals your red blood cell count, then you can start your AMCAS. You have got time to get everything done this summer.

AND....YES....Down with the Florida Schools. What are they thinking?
