Just thought I'd resurrect this one...
Has anyone heard anything from MCG lately? I'm an EDP who was deferred, so I havent heard a thing from them since my interview back in sept. Any word on how many spots on the class there are or how many get taken off the waitlist??
thanks, mox

All I know is that US News and World Report say they accepted 249 people from last year and 180 actually enrolled(the class size). So I guess that means about 70 people will get pulled off the waitlist, but as far as I know they don't even have one yet.....right?

They shouldn't have a waitlist yet because according to them, their class won't be full until the end of May.

I'm trying to come to terms with the fact that it will probably be a long wait before I hear anything from MCG.

Although I shouldn't complain since I just interviewed at the end of Feb. :)

I talked to MCG today. I too have not recieved any word about my application yet. A member of admissions told me that the admissions committee is still reviewing applications. She told me that applicants should hear something by mid April. Hope this helps.

Tazman, is MCG your first choice school? Also, when did you complete your application and interview?

fluffyj -

At first MCG was my first choice, based solely on the fact that it is really cheap. When I went to my interview at Mercer, however, I really started to like their curriculum and their focus on primary care. So, I guess I would have to say Mercer is my first choice (it also helps that I have already been accepted there :D ).

I completed my application sometime in July. I had my interview at MCG in mid August. When did you apply and interview?

I didn't send in my secondary until January, because I really wasn't confident with my score - 27. Also, I wanted to apply with my sister, Misskitty to you all. I interviewed in late Feb. Luckily, they have nonrolling admission. Congrats on getting into your first choice school!! I hope I can say the same about MCG.

Yeah i heard it's rolling admissions at MCG too. Although i would be curious to know how many people they have accepted already. If they go by the March 29th rule, then they have already accepted 180 people and we are all waitlist bound right?

At the pre-interview talk, the dean of admissions Mason Thompson said that they try to give everyone a fair chance, and that they aren't rolling. They meet between late Nov and early Jan to discuss candidates, and early March until late April discuss everyone else. Also, in the letter they sent after I sent in my secondary, they say that the class won't be full until the end of May. I really don't think that the class is full. At least I hope it isn't.

Well I was waitlisted. I got the letter on the 12th, and it was dated the 4th. I think that you should hear something very soon. I was pretty much at the end of the interviewing cycle, so they should have "evaluated" your file before mine. Maybe good news takes longer to arrive by mail! :)

That's is really weird, interviewed like 4 months ago. Perhaps they just plain old lost my file ! Let me know what happens with the waitlist, there is still a good chance of getting in that way. I don't think there is much movement until that May 15 date though. I hope they are not just sending me a flat out rejection. Anyways, i'll be sure to let you know what happens.

Well i got my waitlist letter today, except they forgot to put the form inside that i'm supposed to sign. Looks like we are in the same club, kind of disappointed but at least there is still hope. I called and they wouldn't tell me my spot on the list either. Anyways, let me know if you hear anything or have extra info you know i would like. I'll be sure to do the same, i'm about to call my friends that go there and see what they know. Good Luck!

I have a question. I'm currently a GA resident, but go to school in Connecticut because I really can't stand the heat down there. I told myself that I would only consider applying to MCG because it's so cheap and cuz of the in-state acceptance rate. But recently I visited UCONN med school and really liked it, so now I'm thinking of spending a year here in CT and changing residencies so that I can apply to the UCONN post bacc program and hopefully get into UCONN medschool that way. What do y'all think? Should I just go ahead and apply to MCG or what?

Deepfry - They didn't put my form in my waitlist either. At first I thought that the reason for that reason was that I was so far down on the list they figured why bother, but my sister didn't get a form either. I had a theory that MCG didn't reject anyone that they interviewed, since they only interview between 300-400 people. Do you know anyone rejected post-interview? Remember that last year 70 people got off of the waitlist. :)
Pip- If you like Uconn and the Conn. weather, then you should try to go there. It isn't too hard to get residency in the state where you go to school, I have frineds here in Fl that did it. Just do it far enough in advanced of applying for med school that you don't encounter problems. Personally, I like the heat!

they do reject people post interview, they did me last yr anyway! I didn't even get on their waitlist either, so maybe you all still have a good shot. I reapplied there this yr and declined the interview since I already had 2 other acceptances.

Good luck :)

Well I guess my theory was wrong! Nebula - you should have made them really want you as a student, and then waitlisted them!! And then reject them!! That would teach those med schools!! :)

Yes that would be a ridiculously funny thing to do, although they might send Dr. Death after you for pulling something like that. Hey Congrats again Nebula on the Mercer acceptance, i was there on the Dec. 3rd as well interviewing but unfortunately they did not take me. Fluffyj.....they are supposedly sending the infamous forms in the mail already so we should get them soon. Are you doing anything extra to try and get off the waitlist? I hear sending an LOR might help but i'm not really sure what to do for MCG.

My understanding is that MCG has a linear inflexible ranked wait-list and that movement off the wait- list can occur throughout the summer even until day before Aug classes start, and can be significant in #. I assume that inflexible means you can't change your rank on the list no matter what you do.

I still haven't recieved the form, and they said they mailed it last Friday! I guess someone is walking it from Augusta to Tallahassee, Fl. I really don't think that I will do anything else but wait, and read message boards! I am taking an extra class over the summer, and if I don't get in, I will probably take the MCAT again. Last year, a woman in my MCAT class was on MCG's waitlist, and then in July she suddenly stopped coming to class, so maybe she got off in July. And when I interviewed, they said that last year someone didn't show up for orientation, and they called a person off of the waitlist, and told them that if they could be in Augusta in 3 hours they are in! But that is a little extreme.

Yeah I'm sure i might have to bug them again if that form doesn't come by next week. They mailed my waitlist letter on a Thurs. and it didn't come until Tues. Not as long as the mail takes to get to a Floridian though. Hell if I was a mailman i'd take my damn time. Oh yes i've heard about those people getting in right b4 classes start, that is just nutty to me. I mean where are you supposed to live? I'm sure i'd have enough adrenaline flowing to get down there in three hours and find a place to live within 24 hours if I got in though. So you are just gonna wait it out? That is what i would like to do, i don't want to send anymore stuff to them!!!!! So you think that "inflexible" thing my advisor said about the waitlist means that one cannot change their rank on the list? I hate to ask him to confirm something that is implied, i think i already get on his nerves. Let me know when you get the form, i'm still having my spies find out more about the waitlist if they can. I'm going to the pool.

I am just going to be cool and wait it out. I really don't have anything else to send them. Getting 3 personalized LOR's was hard enough from a big school like FSU. I really can't think of anything else to give them. I am really making plans in case I don't get in this year. But even if they called me on Aug 1, orientation day, I probably could be there in about 2 hours. But it would suck to try to find somewhere to live, and move, while starting med classes. But maybe we will get in before Aug and July.

God I hope we get in. I don't think i ever want to take the MCAT again! Plus it's the summer and it really sucks to study during that time. It's just too damn sunny. Oh i got the "form" yesterday and mailed it off today. I still need to send in my transcripts though. Do you know which address we send it to? I don't want to call them anymore, they might start recognizing my voice and ask my name and then put "annoying bastard" in my file. Anyways...I hope we hear soon cuz i am not studying anytime soon.

I sent my transcripts (fall grades) to MCG-School of Medicine-Office of Admissions-Augusta, GA 30912-4760. Later I called and asked if they recieved them, and they said that they did. I don't like calling too often either. Some people call their interviewers, but they would just recognize your voice that much quicker! Who did you interview with, and did you think that it went well? Some days I think well 70 slot is enough to go around, and other days I think who am I kidding, I sounded like an idiot in my interviews. Maybe this whole process really is making me crazy.

My first interview was very shakey. It was with Dr. Noble. When I first went into the room, she said, in a very shocked voice, that I was gorgeous. Then she went on for 5 minutes about how pretty I was. This really threw me off because I am not jaw dropping attractive. Then she started asking a million questions like Why you? What do you bring? Why would you be good here? and other questions that have very similar answers. So after 2 questions, my answer to all of them were the same, and I sounded very stupid. I feel that the whole thing was a setup. My second interview was with Dr. Ellison. She was sery nice, and the interview went wonderful. But Dr. Noble is the adcom member. So whenever I think of my deciding interview, I think that I made a bad impression. But if I had to interview again, it would be much better. As I am typing, two birds outside of my window are fighting. It is really, really funny. I wonder what they are fighting about. They have been going at it for about 3 minutes. My sister interviewed on the same day, but her interviews went well. Or at least that is what she told me! Miss Kitty, is there anything that you left out? BTW, Deepfry, I did get the form, and I mailed it back in on the same day! I would hate to have an interview with a psychiatrist. I don't know why, they can't read minds, but they probably draw conclusions from your posture and eye movements.

Hi fluffyj,

Why must you make me relive my interviews? :) Actually nothing that significant happened in either one. I did start rambling during the one with my adcom rep. I kept telling myself to "shut up, wrap it up!", but I couldn't and kept on going.

On another note, this waitlist thing is just prolonging this horrible application experience (starting with studying for the MCAT). I really, really wish there was some way I could find out where we are on the waitlist. Why won't they just tell us or at least give us a hint?

I've been hanging out with my relatives, they are keeping me away from the computer. I wonder what the birds were fighting about, i'm sure it wasn't who is going to bird med school. They are just concerned about eating worms. Anyways, sounds like you had the kind of interview i had. One was good and the other was just ok. Maybe the first interviewer was intentionally trying to make you feel akward . Jk, i doubt they are that mean. And speaking of the posture, i was sitting on the psychiatrist's nice couch and it was so comfortable. I'm pretty sure i was slouching the whole freaking time. Oh yeah, and i think i'd do better given another chance too. I was just too anxious about the whole thing, plus it was my first interview in this dragged out process. Do u have any idea how many are on the waitlist? I'm really curious about that. And yes i agree with misskitty, i need to know my freaking spot on the list. That would reallllly be helpful. I have my suspicions as to why they don't tell. There has got to be a way to find out somehow.
-I'm getting a $3000 scholarship from the hospital i volunteered in. My parents will take care of the majority of the difference, unless i piss them off some how.

I like to think that the waitlist has about 100-150 people on it. Considering that my theory is wrong, all 350 people who interview don't necessarily get accepted or waitlisted. Therefore, 180 get in automatically, and last year 70 people got off of the waitlist. That leaves a difference of 100 people. So 50 of those get rejected, and 50 more on the waitlist. That is a total of 120 waitlisted. I would have the exact # of interviews, but the STUPID Usnews website costs money now! Can you believe that! That's probably what those birds were fighting about, the hidden costs of the internet. My parents have told me at least 100 times that they aren't paying for med school. Of course they still butt in, and try to make plans for me, but they won't pay for it! But they do pay for my car. My sister, who also won't be getting money for school from them, has to pay for her own car. Sorry MissKitty.

I have a few friends that got interviews at MCG but got rejections letters last week (ie. an interview doesn't equal waitlist). Also, I know that they've been accepting people since November. I work with a girl who interviewed and got an acceptance letter before Christmas.

My interviewer told me that they had rolling admissions and that they sent out more acceptances than just the 182 (or whatever the class size it). So, if they sent out 249 acceptances last year and the class size was 180, the extra 70 doesn't automatically mean that they came off the wait list. They may have sent out 200 acceptance letters before April 15th. That's how my interviewer at MCG explained it.

It's all unfair to me simply because I'm on the friggin wait list but I'm hoping (along with the rest of you) that my names somewhere near the top!

So about 120 you're thinking, that is not bad at all. I really hope that is correct! I have good news and bad news. The good news is that i have the US NEWS and world report for the fall 2000 admissions at MCG. I printed it out ages ago, actually about the time that i interviewed back in December. The bad news is that the freaking report says that 454 people were interviewed. Oh and yes that is ridiculous, the freaking web site is pay now! I bet we will be paying for e-mail accounts soon enough. So did you apply for finacial aid? Yet another grueling application routine huh. At least they are paying for your car, mine make me pay for repairs, gas, and oil changes, but they paid for the car initially. Oh i just talked to this girl i know and she says two of her friends were waitlisted as well. I don't know their MCAT scores though. She says one of them had close to a 4.0 though. I also have heard rumors that some people haven't even heard anything since their interview still. I think i'm going to call MCG soon and ask them how big the wait list is and how many people get off the thing. Hopefully VictoriaKB's interviewer was just kiddin around about accepting more than 180. All right my food has arrived, i haven't eaten all day, gots to go.

While searching the internet, I stumbled upon Princeton Review's website, www.review.com, and looked up MCG. On there it says that typically 40-50 people get off of the waitlist. The important thing to keep in mind is that some schools only accept 40-50 people in general, and far more than that apply. So remain hopeful of your chances!! BTW, this is really Fluffyj. I finished my finals, and came to Atlanta. I am using my sister's computer, and I was just too lay to sign her out, and actually sign in myself. As far as finaid, I applied for a pin, but I haven't actually applied through fafsa yet. I should call them tomorrow, and ask about the deadline, and change my contact number. Yet another excuse to get them on the phone!

Damn i had trouble finding MCG.....again this time! It's probably cuz i'm in a rush, all the screwed up things happen during these moments. So you are miss kitty, at least this time, i guess i have been tricked! So you came back home huh, is this your last year at Florida? Oh i looked on the website and i couldn't find what you found. Oh well, 50 sounds about right if VictoriaKB was right. And yes call them.....be sure to ask the good questions, and see if you can find out how many people are on the list from hell. Hope you are having fun in the ATL!

I am having fun. (this is still Fluffyj) Tomorrow I am going to the Braves game!! Since they are losing now, maybe they will win tomorrow. I am working on how to ask the about the waitlist, without being too obvious. Maybe I will whisper it until they mention it. Also, at the Review site, search for MCG, and then look at the admissions section. I just looked it up, and I didn't even log in. I need to go work on my chants for the game. Next time, I'll log in as myself. I want to be a senior member and make polls.

And Deepfry, I am at Florida State, not Florida, as in UF, as in our mortal enemies!! Down with gators! But I have one class to take over the summer, and I am going to take a science class to boost my gpa .001 points. I am not sure about the MCAT. I made a 27, but who's to say that I would do better. What do you all think?

Is fluffyj VictoriaKB, now that is the question. JK, i'm sure you two are different entities. Yes, Florida State not Florida, i never really looked hard enough. I like Florida St. a lot, more than the gators at least. I went to UGA and thus am inclined to hate the gators too! It looks like the Braves choked on Sunday anyways, Houston is a good team though so i guess it's understandable. Oh and yes, i did find the review.com thinge you were talking about and saw the 40-50. Now we need to find out the total # on the waitlist and decide whether or not we have to take that hellish test again. I made a 26 myself, and i'm not very confident i'll do much better if i take it again. There is always a chance one might go down, but it might be a chance i will have to take. I only applied to MCG and Mercer, and mercer rejected me, so MCG is my last hope. I'm calling MCG soon and asking them about the waitlist. I bet my advisor can find out my # on the list, but i hate to ask him to snoop for me. All right, i'm going to watch the last of the basketball game...later.

Ah, yes. It's the "mysterious" VictoriaKB again. JK. I'm a GA Tech grad with hopes of being a helluva doctor instead of an engineer. I just found this site during one of my up-all-night cuz I'm friggin' stressed out about med school admission, surfin the internet sessions. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's biting their nails with anticipation!! This whole process is killing me!

I talked to the admissions people and my interviewer and neither would give me even a hint about the rankings. I'm thinking that if I don't hear something by the end of May, then my chances of getting pulled off the waitlist are slim. What do you guys think? I work in an Atlanta ER and talked to some of the ER docs their who graduated from MCG and all say that being on the waitlist is a good thing. They are all like "just chill out. if you can't handle the stress of getting in to med school, you can't handle the stress of being is med school". Well, I am handling it (ie. I haven't jumped off a bridge yet  ) but waiting and working hard are 2 different things. I can learn/study/take tests with the best of them..... but having to WAIT is the worst!

Anyway, May 15th is just around the corner. Hopefully I'll be able to get some sleep some time in the month of June.

The game was a fun thing to do, but the Braves looked like crap out there! The stadium is so nice and new. But the food and liquor is too expensive, so I left in the 8th inning. I am really scared to take the MCAT again. I did really bad in one section, and I don't really want to study more. I just got my grades and that should help my gpa. Plus I am taking 2 more classes over the summer. How much more do they want from me!?! Do they really expect me to study for the MCAT on top of all of that! Okay I am calming down. If I don't get in I think that I will apply early decision. That way they will think that I am dedicated to going to MCG. Did you know that med schools know about your other applicaitons? I am not sure if that is good or bad. But this waiting is quite horrible. I try to approach it like a rejection, and plan for next year and reapplying. But more often than not that doesn't work. I just need to stay busy and keep my cool. <---Me being cool! <---Misskitty flipping out.

Welcome to SDN Jennifer! Why did you withdraw your acceptance, and where are you going instead? My dreams are to 1-get into MCG, and 2-be in a class of really cool and nice people! But first I have to get in! So that's 1 down, 179 to go! Thanks Jennifer! I was starting to stress that EVERYONE who got accepted would go there.

Yeah too bad about the Braves, i would have left in the 3rd. I hate baseball except during the playoffs. Yeah i know they know what other schools we have applied to, i don't really think it matters too much. Good job VictoriaKB, engineering is for nerds, now being a physician is much more rewarding. I'm sure at least one of us will get pulled off the list. It is surprising that people are already declining acceptances, i didn't think that would happen until the last second(may 15th). I do like the news Jennifer gave, i wonder if that directly correlates with the acceptance that was offered to VicKB's friend. If so that is a quick turnaround. And yes fluffyj, i hope there are a good amount of nice people in this year's entering class. I would hate to spend years around cold-hearted people with no personality :(
I hope next time i log on there are even more people like jennifer, now i'm getting all excited again that i might get accepted. Hey Victoria- see if your friend was able to tell where he/she was on the waitlist. Maybe they will tell us once we are in.

Last night I dreamt that I got off of the waitlist! It was a great dream, and very vivid! My sister also got off of the waitlist. We went to Augusta to look for a house. I didn't see who else was there, because orientation hadn't started yet. I guess my subconscious also wants to go to med school at MCG. :) Congrats Jennifer for getting into your first choice school. Study hard and have fun at Tulane!
