MCH or MCHC?

    If a test is needed to check for anemia..which is preferred?

    MCHC I think is more useful but is still not the most important value. The two most important values are the Hemoglobin and the MCV. Based on those two numbers, you can classify anemia as microcytic, normocytic, or macrocytic which provides a lot of information about the source of the anemia. From there you can determine what other studies might be necessary such as B12, Folate, Iron, TIBC, Ferritin, Schilling test, etc.
